Ducati signs Marc Marquez for 2027 and 2028
Ducati Corse has confirmed that Marc Marquez will remain with the Ducati Lenovo Team for the 2027 and 2028 MotoGP World Championship seasons.
Ducati’s official release presents the renewal as a natural continuation of the most successful phase of the Marquez-Ducati relationship to date, built around their 2025 title-winning season and Ducati’s belief that the #93 Bologna continues to represent the competitive spirit of the manufacturer.

Ducati’s release didn’t specify whether Marquez’s recent surgery was the reason for the renewal, but the timing of the announcement makes that context hard to ignore.
Ducati confirmed this
Ducati have confirmed that Márquez will remain in factory red for the next two MotoGP seasons, bringing his current Ducati Lenovo Team deal until the end of 2028.
The relationship between Marquez and Ducati began in early 2024, before the Spaniard moved to the Ducati Lenovo team factory from 2025. Ducati’s release points to that 2025 campaign as the foundation of the renewal, highlighting a remarkable start to the year in red that yielded 14 sprint wins, 11 grand prix wins, 10 double wins, the riders’ championship secured with five grands prix still remaining, and an all-time single-season record of 545 points.
Ducati also referenced the symbolism of the centenary of 2026, with Márquez and the factory team achieving a shared “Triple 100” milestone at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The day marked Ducati’s 100th anniversary, Márquez’s 100th career win in all classes, and the Ducati Factory Team’s 100th MotoGP win since 2003.

The official release is built around success, sustainability and shared ambition. However, the broader context is that this renewal comes just weeks after a significant medical intervention on Marquez’s right side.
Following the Le Mans Sprint crash, Márquez underwent surgery in Madrid to stabilize a fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot. More importantly for his MotoGP future, he also proceeded to have a pre-planned procedure on his right shoulder, where old hardware and a bone fragment from a previous Latarjet operation had shifted and was pressing the radial nerve.
That nerve problem had become a serious complication. It was not just a matter of tolerating the pain. Márquez struggled with numbness, altered feeling, lack of precision and inconsistency while riding, especially when loaded in the MotoGP riding position.
Upon returning to action, Marquez indicated that the surgery had at least achieved its main objective, with numbness and involuntary movements no longer bothering him as much. This did not mean that he suddenly returned to full physical condition. He still talked about pain, altered feeling on the bike, fatigue and the need to rebuild strength and confidence in his right arm.
Marquez has not expanded because he is physically untouched by the past. He has pushed forward because, despite everything, the surgery has given him a way back towards the level needed to continue winning.
Instead of simply returning to air, Marquez soon returned to the finish line. The Hungarian Grand Prix marked the symbolic 100th career victory highlighted by Ducati and was immediately followed by victory in Brno. Those results don’t erase the ongoing weakness and unease, but they change the conversation.

“I am red. I am really happy with this new agreement with the Ducati Lenovo Team and to remain part of this family,” Marquez said in Ducati’s official release.
“When I decided to join Ducati, I was sure it was the most competitive project. They believed in me, and we built a relationship based on trust and hard work. With this renewal, they have once again confirmed this commitment, respecting my time and giving me the peace of mind needed to make the right decision.
“In our first year, we fought for the title and won it: a priceless result that confirms that the path we chose was the right one. I continue to compete because I love this sport and I want to achieve even more ambitious goals. I believe this is the right place to do so. As long as I am here, I will give everything to paint the future red.”
Ducati on renewal
Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali described renewal as the natural choice following the results achieved in Marquez’s first season together in red.
“He brings to a winning team a mentality that is, if possible, even more tenacious and has an extraordinary competitive spirit,” Domenicali said. “Marc, in addition to being an exceptional talent, perfectly represents the Ducati mentality, which is made up of great dedication and sacrifice as well as harmony within the team and the ability to be great professionals even in a playful and relaxed environment. Continuing together means giving continuity to a successful project and therefore Ducati faces the upcoming season with the ambition of keeping it at the top of MotoGP.”
Ducati Corse General Manager Luigi Dall’Igna built the agreement around trust from both Márquez in Ducati and Márquez in Ducati.
“Believe me, the relationship between Ducati and the marque starts here,” said Dall’Igna. “Marc has always put his passion, his motivation and his true competitive spirit above all in the choices he has made that have guided my experience with the Ducati Lenovo Team. He placed his trust in the entire team: this filled us with pride and inspired us to always give our all to support him. As an engineer, working with Marc has impressed me. He brought the Desmosedici GP to peak performance while enhancing every component. Ambitions unchanged And I’m happy to be able to live a new sporting and personal chapter in this Ducati story with Marc.
more than any other contract
On paper, this Ducati is securing the reigning world champion for the next two seasons. In fact, it seems more important than that.
Marquez is 33 years old, has been plagued by injuries and is still not at 100 percent. Recent operations have not made him pain-free, nor removed the underlying material costs of the last decade. But it appears to have given him enough relief, enough control and enough evidence that the top step is still within reach.
