Thailand’s Book Expo champions critical thinking and creative industries

Thailand – Minister of Culture Sabeeda Thaised presided over the opening of the 31st National Book Expo (Book Expo Thailand 2026) on October 23, highlighting reading as essential for critical thinking and the growth of Thailand’s creative industries. The expo, held under the theme Unread Messages, attracted large numbers of readers, particularly children and Generation Z participants

The Minister thanked the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand (PUBAT) for advancing reading and lifelong learning. She noted that reading remains vital in the age of artificial intelligence, supporting information analysis, fact evaluation, and independent thinking.

She also highlighted the potential of Thai literature to inspire films, animation, and other creative content for international markets, generating economic value and promoting Thai cultural identity. The ministry seeks to strengthen the publishing industry by supporting writers, publishers, and emerging creators, and by encouraging the development of Thai literary works for global audiences.

During the ceremony, the Minister joined an Unread Messages storytelling activity and presented awards for the 100 Annual Book and Cover Design 2026 and MESSAGE MAKER projects.

Attendees included Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, PUBAT President Nattakorn Wuttichaipornkul, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Cultural Promotion Prarthana Sinthunawa, and Deputy Director of the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture Itsara Rewtragulpibul. Book Expo Thailand 2026 runs through November 1, 2026, at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok.
