Marc Marquez delivered a masterclass in race management to take a stunning victory in the MotoGP sprint at the German Grand Prix, leading every lap from pole position at the Sachsenring. The Spaniard’s clinical performance saw him withstand relentless pressure from his brother Alex Márquez during the 16-lap dash, and demonstrate impeccable tire protection and composure against the onslaught of Ducati in front of Saturday’s packed crowd.
Despite not enjoying a clear speed advantage over Alex Marquez, Mark controlled the gap expertly, fending off his brother’s constant attacks. On the final stage, Fabio di Gianntonio joined the field, cementing Ducati’s dominance at the front and ultimately taking over the podium entirely for Ducati. Alex Márquez finished second, while Di Gianantonio finished third, as Marc Márquez crossed the line to claim the 19th sprint victory of his career – a new record since the format’s inception.
The win takes Marc Marquez past Jorge Martin to top the list of all-time sprint winners, and is his fourth sprint win of the 2026 season after wins in Brazil, Jerez, Hungary and now at his beloved Sachsenring circuit. The result saw Márquez climb to fifth in the championship standings, closing the gap on series leader Jorge Martin to eight points, with the deficit now 32.
Behind the Ducati powerhouses, the trackhouse Aprilias put in a strong performance, with Ai Ogura finishing fourth and Raul Fernandez fifth. Jorge Martin drove home another Aprilia in sixth place, maintaining his championship lead, now 11 points clear of Marco Bezzecchi. The Italian, sidelined by injury, was absent from the sprint and is set to return to Italy for surgery.
Defending champion Peco Bagnaia finished seventh, while Pedro Acosta led the KTM squad to eighth, ahead of Fabio Quartararo and Diogo Moreira, who rounded out the top ten.
The Sachsenring sprint underlined Márquez’s enduring talent and strategic prowess, rewriting the record books and injecting new intrigue into the title race as the championship intensifies.
