“Well, it’s the first song on the album,” she continued, “and I think there’s no better place to hear it. I’m very proud of this work, and I made all the videos and footage with my friends to accompany the song, and it’s like a big theme throughout the record: me and my friends – you know, controversially.” (Big laugh.) “We had a lot of fun making these little scenes and movies, and we were doing a lot of filming during the recording process music, fashion, filmWhich was mostly made in Paris, but was slightly different everywhere else.

“I would say this album is kind of about how lucky I feel to be able to do what I do. I feel very grateful to art, to making things. I feel like it’s a huge part of who I am, and without being able to make things, I don’t know who I would be. It’s a very joyful thing, but there’s also torturous things about it, the fact that without being able to make songs I probably don’t know who I would be.” And write and make stuff. I just love this record, and I hope you do too, but I hope you enjoy it, and I’m glad you get to see it here at Metrograph, and yes, I love you.”

Upon her exit, a fan shouted, “People’s Princess!” And if you listened really, really carefully, you might hear your favorite twink yelling the same thing from his rooftop in Bushwick (complimentary).

At press time it is unclear whether the visual accompaniment that unfolds on the Metrograph screen will ever be released, but oh boy, does it happen and the album is completely destroyed – completely different from Charlie. brat Era. Next to most songs, there is a brief description of what influenced it or how certain elements of it came together. Before the “camera”, there’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it celebrity cameo that movie buffs will totally love. “Magic Metal Montana” kept me thoroughly entertained throughout the entire affair. And let’s just say Cronenberg himself would be very satisfied with the behind-the-scenes footage of his feature. I am absolutely here for this new era.

Next I met some fans in the lobby, all of whom were clearly in high spirits, including pop culture aficionado Alison Sivitz, who you might know as Bald N Dowd. “The Charlie Cronenberg feature is so crazy it heard my distressed screams and came to the rescue,” he tweeted after seeing the tracklist.

“I think his inability to be embarrassed, or at least outwardly embarrassed, is what makes him so cool,” Sivitz told me. “It’s an album about the ego and the impermanence of everything and just saying fuck it and give yourself permission to mess up and be embarrassed, and it’s speaking to me right now. There’s a song on there called ‘I’m Afraid’; that was my favorite.”

Between music, fashion and film, who will Bald Ann Dowd fuck, marry and kill? “I’m obviously going to marry the film,” she announced. “Film is always there for me. I’ll love the musical and then I have to eliminate the fashion, because I love dressing like Adam Sandler.” And, well, I added, “Actually I had that too.”

The energy of the fans was really amazing. “She’s such a—can I say vaginal? I can say she’s really vaginal, and I think everything we saw should be released because it was so perfect and it was so artistic,” Ella Paz of the East Village told me. Ella will marry film, marry music and destroy fashion. “I love fashion, but it may be over.”
