A vintage sportswear expert shares his 7 greatest discoveries

It all started with He-Man. This is what Josh Rotter, co-founder of the popular New York City shop, has to say: We believe in vintageHe first indulged his passion for collecting as a child growing up in Canada in the late 1980s. The same impulse that inspired Rotter to assemble the collection lord of the universe The idols inspired her to specialize in a wide range of collectible vintage clothing from ’90s band tees to Supreme five-panel hats, and in 2010 she opened her first online store with her partner Chantal Varela.

At Vintage We Trust, which recently relocated from Rotter’s hometown of Toronto to NYC’s Lower East Side, has become a go-to destination for diverse styles of clothing, but the shining gem at its heart is the Hall of Game, a museum-like space dedicated entirely to game-worn sneakers and jerseys. Here is a sampling of Rotter’s most prized pieces.

Bill Bradley’s 1965 Game-Worn World Universiade USA Jersey

“I found this jersey more than a decade ago, and it took almost that long to match it to a known photo of the team. Team USA won the gold medal at the ’65 World Universiade – now the FISU University Games – in Budapest and featured several future NBA players, including Jimmy Walker, the Van Arnsdale brothers and future Knicks legend Bill Bradley, who wore number 11. It’s an incredible jersey – it really deserves to be put in a museum. Should.”

1952-1954 Game-Worn New York Yankees Dugout Jacket

“Although these have been reproduced over the years, there is something about the combination of frayed wool and leather wrapped around the pockets that cannot be replicated with modern machines. The wool liner and black Wilson tagging add to its charm, and I can only imagine the legends who sat around the dugouts at the old Yankee Stadium when this coat was in vogue.”
