Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch the GLC Electric in India on November 4, 2026. The luxury EV will roll out of the German marque’s Chakan facility in Pune and will be available in a single 400 4Matic guise. With the GLA Electric yet to make its India debut, the GLC Electric will become Mercedes-Benz’s most affordable electric SUV in the country. A distinctive design, a massive dashboard-wide display and a 94kWh battery pack aside, here are other details one can expect from the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric.
1. What does the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric look like?
Gets an upright illuminated grille, tri-star DRLs and a gloss-black band at the rear
For starters, the GLC Electric is longer and wider than its combustion-powered counterpart. The front fascia of the global-spec model features a large chrome-garnished grille with 942 illuminated elements that also includes the three-pointed star. Flanking this grille are LED headlights featuring the brand’s new ‘tri-star’ DRL signature lighting. Then there’s the frunk, which comes with a claimed storage capacity of 129 litres.
The side profile showcases a sloped roofline with silver rails and chrome detailing around the windows and under the doors. Compared to some other markets, the India-spec GLC Electric is to get 20-inch alloy wheels and flush door handles. The rear sports a full-width gloss-black band with integrated LED tail-lamps that feature star-shaped elements. As for the boot, the global-spec model offers 570 litres of claimed luggage capacity.
2. How is the interior of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric?
There’s enough space for four adults here and overall quality is good too
The interior of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric gets a slab-faced dashboard, which is dominated by a massive 39.1-inch Hyperscreen. Its sheer acreage means the layout integrates the main infotainment display, the driver’s display and also a front passenger display. This cabin gets metallic accents, open-pore wood trim and a leather-wrapped steering wheel – it all looks rather upscale.
Meanwhile, overall quality and fit-finish of the materials used in the cabin of the global-spec model we reviewed felt top-notch – this is unlikely to change in the India-spec GLC Electric. We also found the front and rear seats to be comfortable, though a high centre tunnel means that the rear bench is best reserved for two adults.
3. What features will the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric offer?
Highlights include an electrochromic panoramic glass roof, Burmester audio, 9 airbags and more
A surround-sound Burmester audio system aside, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric is also expected to offer multi-colour ambient lighting, powered & massaging front seats with ventilation, and an electrochromic panoramic glass roof. Some of this EV’s other convenience features could also include wireless charging, multi-zone automatic climate control, wireless smartphone connectivity, a powered tailgate and surround-view cameras.
Safety kit will include 9 airbags, a head-up display, all-round parking sensors, electronic stability programme, hill-hold assist, and a comprehensive ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) suite.
4. What powertrain will the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric get?
The 400 4Matic gets dual motors and up to 330kW DC fast charging
India will get the GLC Electric in its 400 4Matic guise. This variant combines a 94kWh battery pack and two electric motors – one for each axle. The combined output stands at 489hp and 800Nm, with Mercedes-Benz claiming a 0-100kph time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 210kph. There’s also a 2-speed gearbox, designed for quick overtaking or for relaxed long-distance cruising. Speaking of which, the WLTP-rated range is up to 715km.
The GLC Electric runs on an 800V architecture and supports DC fast charging at up to 330kW. This means the battery can go from 10-80 percent in a claimed 22 minutes, with a 10-minute charge adding up to 305km of range. There’s a one-pedal driving mode and an intelligent regen mode that adapts to the driving environment. Meanwhile, the global-spec model gets air suspension and rear-axle steering as standard, where the former uses Google Maps data to actively adjust the vehicle’s ride height on the go. It remains to be seen if the India-spec model gets these features, too.
5. What is the expected price of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric?
Local assembly should allow Mercedes-Benz to price this EV competitively
The upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric is expected to be priced between Rs 80 lakh and Rs 90 lakh. For reference, the combustion-powered GLC starts at Rs 77 lakh. It’ll become the entry point to the German brand’s electric SUV line-up in India. The GLC Electric will have no direct rivals at launch, with the BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase only expected to arrive in 2027.
