  • Podcast newsletters (the ones you run for your podcast, not this one) are “the best real estate to own in podcasting,” says Sounds Profitable’s Tom Webster in an article this week. 87% of subscribers to podcast newsletters have listened to an episode because of them (42% listen often), and of course they allow you to talk directly to your audience (and get more information from them, like surveys or even merchandise sales). It’s part of The Podcast Atlas, research released earlier this month; Webster also notes that all the best newsletters let you reply and talk directly to the creator: We agree, and you’re welcome to try with this newsletter, too.

  • The UK media regulator, Ofcom, released research on the UK’s media habits. There is a lot of data on podcast listening, with the term being mentioned 135 times (!) – interestingly, 53% of UK people listen to “speech audio” such as podcasts or talk radio: 25-34 year olds have the highest access to speech radio, podcasts and audiobooks. YouTube is the most used platform for any audio content. Only 45% of Britons think the podcasts they listen to have too many adverts (it should be said that all BBC podcasts are ad-free).

We reported that the video was coming to iHeartRadio in January; They support AlternateEnclosure tag.

Entries for the SONARR Awards are almost closed

paid content

There are audio awards in Australia. What it never had is an organization built for the creators the market scales can’t see – the independent producers, the storytellers, the audiobook artists, the sound designers no one gives credit for, the crafts that deserve to be discovered. That’s exactly what the Sonar Awards exist for. Want to find creators. Listeners want a confidence signal. The sonarr is the bridge between the two: a craft-assessed mark that says the work has met a standard.

Built by people who work in audio, for people who work in audio, supported by AFTRS as a founding educational partner. You have created the work. Don’t doubt yourself. It’s not for the shiny – it’s for the good.

Only 1 day left to enter the SONARR Awards. Entries close tomorrow 31st July.
