Ford F-150 Raptor and Chevy Silverado ZR2 fans should be worried because the new 2027 Ram TRX is here. It is coming soon to a dealer near you. This truck features a 777 horsepower supercharged V8 engine and a very competitive price. Let’s dig in.

The Ram TRX keeps the formula the same with a wide-body design, long-travel off-road suspension, and a powerful engine. Except that they take the power, precision and luxury up to at least another level. Let’s start with the powertrain.

engine

Under the hood is a 6.2L Hellcat supercharged V8 engine that has been updated and reworked for production 777 hp @ 6,500 rpm and 680 lb-ft of torque @ 4,800 rpm. Ram says that the engineers took lessons from the variety of supercharged V8 engines produced by the company in the past and they combined them all into this engine.

Power is sent to all four wheels through an 8-speed ZF 8HP95 automatic transmission and a 3.55-to-1 rear axle ratio. Ram says that’s good enough to send this big and heavy truck from 0-60 MPH 3.5 seconds. They say that this truck can cover the distance of 1/4 mile in 12.2 seconds. As a reminder, this truck comes with 325 mm wide all-terrain tires that measure 35 inches in diameter.

This truck still has top speed 118 MPH Because it is limited by all-terrain tires.

As you can see, this engine has never been known for efficiency. its rating is 10 mpg in the city, 14 mpg on the highway, and 12 mpg Joint. Can one get more efficiency from this huge truck in “snow” mode? We’ll have to test it on the Denver 100 MPG Loop and find out.

4WD system

The new TRX uses the same Borg-Warner BW 48-13 full-time 4×4/AWD transfer case. It offers a variable front-to-rear power split. It’s a 40/60 split in auto mode. In wet/snow mode it is 45/55. In tow mode it is 45/55. It’s a more tail happy 25/75 in Baja mode. The power split is 50/50 front to rear in off-road with the 4L “low-range”. Low-range gearing provides a reduction of 2.64 to 1.

First gear offers a 4.71-to-1 ratio. The crawl ratio can be calculated: 4.71 x 2.64 x 3.55 = 44.142-to-1. That’s not a very low crawl ratio, but this truck isn’t the ultimate rock crawler. It’s really meant for high-speed desert racing, but it should also crawl up rocks if you ask it.

suspension

The overall mechanical characteristics of the suspension remain the same. The TRX is about six inches wider than the RAM 1500 on which it is based. it’s about 11.8 inches Of ground clearance. The active dampers are Bilstein Blackhawk E2 with 355 mm diameter. The 4WD transfer case and damper tuning for this truck has been updated to incorporate all the learnings from the original 2021-2024 TRX and the new 2025+ RAM RHO.

Offers suspension and body work 31-degree angle of approach, a 25.2-degree departure angle, and a 21.8-degrees Breakover angle.

the interior

The new TRX is more awesome than ever. You see and touch the leather surfaces on the dash, steering wheel and seats. There is red stitching everywhere. The truck includes red seatbelts, which is a nice touch.

Additionally – the truck includes a larger 14.5-inch center infotainment screen. You can use this screen to configure and understand all the different driving modes. The interior has all the comfort features you could expect. This truck has heated/ventilated and massaging front seats. It has heated/ventilated rear seats. It has an optional panoramic sunroof.

The truck has a head up display, paddle shifters and a RAM hands-free highway driving mode.

price

The truck has a starting price of $74,995 plus a $25,000 29Q package and a $2,795 destination charge. It all comes at a starting price of $102,790. This truck has many options with a last as tested price of $107,315.
