Track-only GTX with supercharged V8 power

  • Jensen International Automotive was recently formed in an effort to revive the name of the iconic British automaker.
  • The first new model, called the Interceptor GTX, will be a track-only supercar.
  • Jensen plans to use the GTX to demonstrate style and performance potential for future street-legal models.

The recently revived Jensen International Automotive announced plans for a fresh take on a British classic: the Interceptor. Jensen is planning to bring back its iconic muscle car, and the initial version is named the Interceptor GTX.

However, there’s a problem: Jensen has likely found a way to get into the pre-production phase while still securing customers to support this early progress. The first new Jensen will be a track-only supercar.

Very little is known about the Interceptor GTX other than some exciting news. The car should be light due to its aluminum chassis and bodywork. At the front, you can expect a supercharged V8 engine.

according to autocar, Jensen has talked about the analog driving experience. Many people hope this refers to a proper manual gearbox.

However, interestingly, the early launch via track-only supercar allows Jensen to avoid the regulations required to legally drive the car on the road. Jensen customers will then essentially be driving prototypes. This could prove to be a great customer relations experience if Jensen helps its customers understand how road cars should be built.

motor1 tech: The original Jensen Interceptor remains one of the coolest cars ever to come out of the UK. We hope Jensen can capture a bit of the magic found in the original. The car would require a heavy motor of almost Italian design.
