Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is auctioning off a Harley-Davidson to help wildlife

Conservation groups are working overtime these days. With attacks on our public lands, attacks on our forests and healthy ecosystems, attacks on things like roadless governance, and attacks on local and state governments handing over massive amounts of land to proposed AI data centers, these groups fighting the good fight are needed now more than ever. But fighting these tidal forces requires money. Money for legal challenges and money for on-the-ground conservation work.

Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) One of those groups is that, while the name suggests it is only concerned with restoring and preserving elk populations, it also works across species, habitats and ranges to help all of our nation’s ecosystems. The focus has been on the elk themselves, which has worked, as elk populations are once again on the rise, and with the group’s help, have even restored populations that were nearly driven to extinction – hello, tule elk.

But then again, conservation work requires money, which is why during the annual Big Game Days in Missoula, Montana, the RMEF is set to auction off a number of cool items, including some red rifles, elk hunting experiences, paintings, bows, fishing trips, and a whole lot more that caught my attention. Have you ever wanted to match the 2008 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide and the 2008 Ford F-150 Harley-Davidson Edition? Well, now’s your chance.

According to RMEF’s auction page, “Bid on the two-piece Harley-Davidson package that combines a 2008 Ford F-150 Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary Edition with a 2008 Screamin’ Eagle Ultra Classic Electra Glide. This set brings the truck and bike together in one bid, a matching pair built around a name that defines American road culture – and both vehicles rare. “Comes with Genesis, donated by the former CEO of Harley-Davidson as a one-owner machine.”

The pairing remains an artifact of another time, as the two companies worked together for a while in the early days. I still remember seeing the Harley-Davidson F-150 on the streets for the first time and thinking, “Yo, what’s the deal with that?” But the partnership continued for some time and even today, Ford’s current CEO, Jim Farley, remains on the board of Harley-Davidson. However, the duo haven’t done anything new in a while, so this set is a great chance to relive those times, while also supporting conservation work.

RMEF also says that the Screamin’ Eagle Ultra Classic Electra Glide is serial number 1 of 1,800, and both it and the F-150 were actually once owned by former Harley-Davidson CEO James Zimmer, and were donated by the former executive.

The auction states that the F-150 “shows 31,924 miles through April 2, 2026, while the Harley shows 4,340 miles through April 2, 2026.” However, hopefully this will be over this weekend, as RMEF is doing great work in the backcountry, on public lands, and for elk and other wildlife.
