The lineup ranges from the bare-bones Chief to the touring-ready Super Chief, complete with a detachable windscreen and neatly integrated saddlebags.

The most affordable of the group is the $14,999 Chief. It follows a minimalist, no-frills formula that blends old-school style with advanced accessibility and urban riding capabilities. The next number is Chief Bobber, which is priced at $ 17,499. It gets custom-bobber features like chopped fenders, a mini-ape handlebar, chunky tires and a solo seat.

Both the Sport Chief and the new Chief Vintage are priced at $19,999. Base Chief and Chief Bobber models are powered by the timeless 111 cubic-inch Thunderstroke V-Twin. This air-cooled mill produces approximately 90 horsepower and 108 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox with a final belt drive system for greater durability.

The other main models (namely Chief Dark Horse, Sport Chief, Chief Bobber Dark Horse, Super Chief Dark Horse, Super Chief Limited, Sport Chief RT and the new Chief Vintage) are powered by a larger Thunderstroke 116 V-twin. This engine produces the same power but stands out with a torque rating of 120 pound-feet. This extra muscle is courtesy of a larger bore, a higher compression ratio, a larger 60mm throttle body and several other engine modifications.

A simple yet durable chassis forms the basis of the Indian Chief lineup. It has a steel tubular frame in which the V-twin is securely housed. The sub-frame is made of cast aluminum, and this combination provides a balance of structural stiffness and weight distribution.

The frame is hung on 46 mm telescopic forks at the front and pre-load-adjustable dual shocks at the rear. The only exceptions to this lot are the Sport Chief and Sports Head RT The models, which get slimmer, feature a differently tuned 43mm fork at the front. Braking duties are courtesy of 300mm discs at both ends. There is a four-piston calliper at the front and a two-piston calliper at the rear.

The Sport model features larger 320 mm dual Brembo semi-floating discs at the front and a single 298 mm floating disc at the rear. The Chief Vintage also has smaller 298 mm discs at both ends. All main models run on Metzeler Cruisetec tyres. While all models wrap around 16-inch laced wheels, the Sport trims are an exception with 19-inch front and 16-inch rear lightweight cast alloy wheels.

With a low seat height of 26 inches, the Base Chief is one of the most accessible cruiser bikes available today. Even with the touring-ready Super Chief Dark Horse and Limited trims’ 26.2-inch seat height and the Sport Chief model’s 27-inch taller seat height, seat height remains highly accessible to smaller riders. Further adding to its daily ride comfort are relatively acceptable curb weights of 670 pounds for the stripped-down base Chief model and up to 739 pounds for the touring-ready Super Chief.

The base model, with its stripped-down design, highlights subtle curves and features such as a teardrop fuel tank, a scooped solo seat, and bobbed front and rear fenders. Some models also have a strong custom look with blacked-out elements such as the engine, wheels, exhaust system and headlamp casings.

The touring-ready Super Chief models, despite their sleek looks with tall windscreens and leather saddlebags, still emphasize the old-school aesthetic. However, the model that instantly takes you back to the 1940s is the new Chief Vintage, which features gorgeous, highlighted curves with valanced fenders, a vintage-style floating solo seat and vintage handlebars. The Sport Chief model offers a different approach, with a more muscular stance due to the front fairing and neatly integrated side case.
