A federal investigation is underway into a fatal collision involving a Tesla sedan after an electric vehicle crashed into a home in Texas, killing a woman inside.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on June 22 that it had launched a special crash investigation into the June 19 incident. The agency, which confirmed the investigation in an emailed statement, did not provide additional details.
On June 19, a Tesla Model 3 crashed into a brick house near Houston, an incident that attracted widespread attention after it was captured on a front door video camera. According to a statement from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the driver told authorities he was using an automated driver-assistance system when the vehicle left the roadway and crashed at high speed.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Wall Street Journal reported on the NHTSA investigation as early as June 22.
