News: Updated 2027 Toyota Sequoia Trailhunter Joins New Tundra and Expands Its 4WD Off-Road Lineup

Toyota announced the latest update to the 2027 Toyota Sequoia lineup. There’s a new Sequoia Trailhunter off-road package that probably isn’t what you’d expect. This Sequoia update is in line with the updates the company announced just a few days ago for the 2027 Tundra. Here are all the latest Sequoia SUV details. Let’s dig!

First up is the exterior styling update. You’ll have to look closely, but the 2027 Sequoia has an updated front bumper cover. Most of the changes are near the front corners. The Trailhunter model you see here has rugged color-changing fog lamps and prominent front tow hooks. The rest of the exterior is largely unchanged.

The Trailhunter

The new Trailhunter Off-Road package is built on top of the base Sequoia SR5 trim level. Toyota hasn’t announced pricing yet, but this off-roader should cost significantly less than the Sequoia TRD Pro.

The Trailhunter package includes a new wheel design. Toyota is using Michelin LTX trail tires for this package. These don’t offer a very aggressive tread, but should be a good all-around tire offering. We need to run it before we can make a full evaluation. The tire size is 265/70R18, which can be said to be a 33-inch diameter tire. In actual tire size calculations it is listed as measuring 32.6-inches by 10.4-inches. The Trailhunter uses Old Man EMU dampers and branded skid plates to enhance off-road ability.

As before, the Sequoia is powered by the I-Force MAX hybrid powertrain. It features a 3.4L twin-turbo V6 engine paired with an electric motor and a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Sequoia continues with a 4×4 transfer case that offers 2WD, 4Hi and 4Lo modes. This is similar to what is offered in the Tundra.

interior part

The interior also gets several updates. Most notable is the updated steering wheel with redesigned buttons for the cruise control system and other functions. All new 2027 Sequoia SUVs now get a larger 14-inch center infotainment screen. It has Toyota’s latest multimedia software.

The Sequoia offers the company’s latest Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 driver-assistance suite of technologies.

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD)
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
  • Lane Departure Warning with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)
  • Automatic High Beam (AHB)
  • Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)
  • Road Sign Assist (RSA)
  • Proactive Driving Assist (PDA)

The 2027 Sequoia lineup will continue with the SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone trim levels. We’ll have more details and full pricing information on these updated models when they go on sale in the US in the fall of 2026.
