According to a report by nikkiNissan CEO Ivan Espinosa says the company has an ambitious new goal: getting cars to market in about 30 months. As a proof of concept, Nissan’s new Skyline should be launched this winter after just 26 months of development, which is less than 55 months when Nissan last updated the vehicle.
We won’t be able to see this new skyline in the US, but our counterpart will be here soon as a result of the shorter development time. Nissan’s sister company, Infiniti, plans to bring a US version of the vehicle to market here.

Nissan learned from China and applied AI tools to help cut production times. The brand says that through its partnership with automaker Dongfeng, the pair developed a new electric sedan in just two years, or half the time it took Nissan alone using traditional methods.
“A big part of it is built on AI capabilities and the use of new tools, more digital tools in the design phase, in the testing phase, in the manufacturing phase,” Espinosa said. “China is by far setting the future industry standard in terms of technology, in terms of cost competitiveness and in terms of development time.”
Nissan’s sales have declined over the years as its lineup has become older. However, the brand hopes its new product offensive will help fix this. It has several new products planned over the next several years, including a new Infiniti sports sedan reportedly using the Z’s powertrain and a new Xterra amid plans for US market expansion.

Other new product plans also call for an updated hybrid Nissan GT-R. Presumably, the first of these products American buyers will see is the revived Xterra, which aims to rival mid-size off-road SUVs like the Toyota 4Runner.
