9 out of 10 Canadians listened to some form of audio yesterday – and half of it is ad-supported. However, according to new research from Signal Hill Insights, podcasts only get 9% of all ad-supported audio time in Canada. The study states that music is listened to 2.5 times more on YouTube or streaming services.
- How does it compare? According to RAJAR’s MIDAS study, podcasts account for only 6% of audio in the UK; GfK says 8.9% of audio in Australia is ad-supported; But Edison Research’s Share of Year says 20% of ad-supported audio is in the US.
- Meanwhile, across the US TV landscape, Nielsen reports that streaming services were responsible for 48.6% of total TV usage in May. YouTube is at 13.8%; Netflix is at 8%.
