Hot Wheels Infinite Rush preview: Die-cast playground goes open-world

Hot Wheels Infinite Rush preview: Die-cast playground goes open-world

Believe it or not, this is one of my favorite racing games of all time hot wheels turbo racing On the N64 and the original PlayStation. Many Hot Wheels-branded titles have been created by various developers over the years, but today, the franchise milestone is home to the racing game artisans who were responsible for the thrilling and addictive screamer earlier this year. His next project, Hot Wheels Infinite RushTakes the spirit of earlier studios spread out The game breaks the action across four open-world environments, which are predictably packed with secrets, collectibles, and different event types that you can easily jump into.

We were lucky enough to get a playable preview of infinite rush Last week, and it’s shaping up nicely. personally, spread out The games were a bit of a failure for me between the harsh physics and unremarkable track design, hence the decision to infinite rush The open world works in the game’s favor. Instead of real-life playrooms, these worlds feel like thriving, miniature cities. If you have played lego 2k driveThe feel and vibe is obviously exactly the same, just replace one popular toy franchise with another.

The extensive launch roster of 150 die-casts features four categories of vehicles: Versatile, Speeder, Drifter and Titan. Their names are largely self-explanatory, but in one burnout heaven-Types of fashion, the main thing is that they all earn incentives by driving in different ways. Some are better than others in certain situations – if you’re planning on going off-road, you’ll want a Titan, for example – and each group has both fictional Hot Wheels and metal-ified versions of real cars, including the Ferrari SF90 Stradale, Lancia Delta Integrale, NA Mazda Miata and Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution, to name a few standouts.

They all look great, which Milestone has always managed with these games. The way they are able to take advantage of the Unreal Engine to create the most realistic looking toy cars you have ever seen, from their metallic paint to their “tempo” graphics (printed features) and plastic wheels, is second to none. And, perhaps it’s not surprising given how good it is screamer Well, the preview build I ran on my midrange PC performed exceptionally smoothly at high settings.

I like that there’s always a challenge in these open worlds, and I’d say starting one has even less friction than an event. forza horizonAnd loading is also rare. I especially like the “daredevil” element – cars that you’ll meet on your travels will immediately begin a head-to-head race when you drive near them. Defeat them on the spot, and you’ll add them to your collection. Lose, and you just have to wait for your opportunity the next time they powerslide across your screen.

In terms of how driving actually feels, I don’t necessarily love it or hate it. The game has the stiffness and heaviness in low-speed maneuvers that is so typical of modern arcade racers. Personally, I prefer less understeer and more responsive handling, but given the emphasis on ripping long drifts, especially in the drifter class of vehicles, it makes sense.

The Wheelswood environment, which was the only one of the four available in the build I played, features city-like grid roads, mountain roads and, of course, big orange and blue Hot Wheels tracks, with wild turns and huge loops appearing on everything, as you’d expect. Players will also be able to assemble their own custom tracks in these maps. And, whenever you break a lamp post or bush or other roadside objects, you hear a lovely sound of plastic cracking. Yes—the gods understood the task, there is no doubt about it.

overall, infinite rush Milestone may be the best Hot Wheels game to date, not only in terms of content but also in terms of unique gameplay. Like 2K driveIt seems like it’s an experience more suited to kids than most people currently living out their automotive fantasies. forza horizon 6. That said, what is here is already much more interesting and comprehensive for me of forza Hot Wheels and Lego expansions of the past. Hot Wheels Infinite Rush It is expected to release on September 24th on Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X and S, PS5, and PC for a reasonable price of $50.
