A former WWE Champion and future Hall of Famer has publicly addressed his departure for the first time.
On July 5, news broke that Sheamus (real name Stephen Farrelly) was leaving WWE after turning down the offer of a restructured deal, which would have ended his 19-year tenure with the company.
During a brief interview with Adam Glynn of Adam’s Apple (h/t F4WOnline.com), Sheamus addressed his departure from WWE. The 48-year-old wouldn’t go into specific details, though he admitted that “circumstances arose” that led to his exit.
“Some circumstances came up. Obviously I can’t talk about it,” Sheamus said. “But, 19 years is a long time, a good crack. I left Ireland in 07, so I didn’t really get the luxury of going home, seeing my family and seeing my friends. Now in the last few weeks I’ve had a chance to recalibrate and come back and catch up on birthdays and missed opportunities.”
Sheamus stressed that he is enjoying his free time and is “in a really good place.” Despite never winning the Intercontinental Championship, thus keeping him out of the WWE Grand Slam Club, Sheamus stated that there are “no regrets”.
“I’ve had an amazing career, dude,” he said. “No regrets. That’s what I mean. No regrets.”
Earlier this week, it was also reported that Sheamus’ contract with WWE would not expire until October 1. After that, he will be free to sign with another promotion.

Since debuting for the WWE main roster in late 2009, Sheamus has gone on to have a phenomenal career that will undoubtedly earn him a place in the Hall of Fame.
Sheamus won three WWE Championships, one World Heavyweight Championship, three United States Championships, and five tag team titles. He won the 2012 Royal Rumble and the 2015 Money in the Bank ladder match, his final World Title retention with a successful cash-in.
