Here’s the full list of recalls, which vehicles they affect and what problems they cause. Some are merely regulatory, while others are security issues.

This is a major issue, affecting 255,404 Ford Focuses built between 2012 and 2018. The canister purge valve may malfunction and remain open during an evaporative leak monitor test. This can cause excessive vacuum in the fuel system, causing the engine to stall and be unable to restart. This may also damage the plastic fuel tank.

On 91,198 F-150s from 2018 to 2020, the daytime running lights may not dim when the headlight switch is changed from “Autolamps” to “Headlamps On”. Although this is not a catastrophic issue, it still violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108.

18,124 On a 2017 Ford Escape, when closing over an object blocking the window, the power windows may not automatically reverse correctly if excessive force is applied before re-opening.

10,742 On a 2018 F-150, moving the gear selector from Park to Drive too quickly can cause the gear indicator display to no longer display any gear, leaving the driver unable to determine which gear they are in. They may be in reverse or neutral and not know it.

Ford’s PowerShift transmission already had some problems, and here’s another one. 5,252 On a 2015 to 2018 Focus and 2013 to 2016 Fusion, the clutch can slip excessively, causing premature wear and overheating. This heat can cause cracks in the pressure plate, which may eventually break. Fragments can also create holes in the transmission case, causing fluid leakage. It may not seem like a software update could fix that type of problem, but it is an automatic transmission, and the update reprograms it to more effectively detect and prevent slipping clutches to avoid this problem.

The instrument cluster may fail when cold in 4,445 2017 Ford F-150s. This also seems like a hardware issue, yet a software fix is expected to resolve it.

Again, the instrument cluster may be blank at startup, although the issue here is the memory chip rather than the temperature. It affects 2,349 2019 Ford Mustangs, Lincoln Navigators, and Lincoln Nautilus (some NHTSA documents still call the Nautilus the MKX, but they are the same vehicle). Software updates will bypass memory clusters that cause this problem.
