Fiat's tiny new EV is coming to America with just 8 horsepower

After a few delightful cameos at North America’s major auto shows, Fiat’s pint-sized Topolino City Runabout is making its triumphant arrival on American soil. Set to compete for valuable parking real estate in major US cities, the Topolino is quite different from any other EV on American roads. Mainly, because no one is that young.

In fact, the all-new Fiat Topolino is very small on a scale rarely seen in the state. With dimensions of 99.6 inches long and 56.4 inches wide, you could fit two of them end to end in the wheelbase of a Chevy Suburban. Based on the French Citroën Ami, the Topolino’s footprint is small enough to fit into the smallest urban parking spaces. Legally classified as a Low Speed Vehicle or Neighborhood EV in the States, the Topolino leaves its Moroccan factory with a 5.4 kWh battery mated to an eight-horsepower electric motor powering the front wheels.

With a range of up to 46 miles, the Topolino is ideal for short city trips that rarely cover more than five to ten miles a day. Using 2.3kW AC charging to go from flat to charged in five hours, the lack of dedicated fast charging is something Americans will definitely miss. Still, the Topolino’s minimalist digital gauge cluster and integrated smartphone hold in lieu of a center screen make it seem like a normal car to get excited about. At all times, Topolino is simple enough to remain affordable. In the spirit of its famous ancestor, the exterior styling of the new Toppolino is classically Italian.

The choice of normal doors, hinged at the front on the passenger side and rear hinged for the driver, or simple ropes tied to the hinges with Dolcevita trim, makes an impressive styling change. Add space for luggage as well as a glove box, an integrated bag hook and a windshield defroster like a normal car, the Topolino is surprisingly practical considering how small it is. Featuring funky 14-inch alloy wheels and a panoramic sunroof on the standard Topolino, as well as a tasty Verde Vita paint color, Stellantis is really not holding back in bringing a Euro-spec city car to the United States.

“Topolino represents a new chapter for the brand in America – one defined not just by size, but by purpose,” said FIAT brand CEO Olivier Francois. “With Toppolino, we bring a feeling, a lifestyle, a reminder that mobility can be joyful, expressive and beautifully simple.” A limited quantity of Topolinos will be available for the 2026 model year, with more becoming available next year.
