Last March, the U.S. Secret Service shared a concept image of an eight-lug, HD-chassis Escalade, around the same time that GM won a $14.8 million contract to build a new presidential limo. Today, President Trump hinted that the military-Escalade concept has come to life, and he’s ordering 250 of them.
“The one and only Escalade,” the president said in his speech. hour long address. “You know we ordered 250 Escalades, I think, right? We ordered 250 Escalades… We look good in those Escalades.” He also made several other ragging-related comments about the UAW president.
An Escalade costs about $90,000, so the value of this order would exceed $22,500,000. It’s unclear whether these will be regular Escalades for get-around duty or armored ones like the concept shown last year. Most likely, they will have at least some upfitting and they will be a little more expensive than the Escalades you can lease from your local Cadillac store.
Although specifications have not been disclosed, these vehicles will likely run on GM HD pickup truck frames with larger axles and armor. Even a “basic” armored Escalade can easily cost over $300,000.
But if this Escalade looks a lot like the truck USS teased last year, the “Escalade” part will largely be just bumpers and exterior decorative parts. It would probably have the same exact basis as the suburbs now in use.
USSS also has a large mobile command center busvarious Ford and Chevy SUVs, and at least one Teradyne Gurkha Tactical vehicle, which is built on the Ford Super Duty platform.
