Famous rock band announces before upcoming show

Queen has become one of the most iconic rock bands in history since they were officially formed in London in 1970. The band consisted of Freddie Mercury on lead vocals, John Deacon on bass, Roger Taylor on drums and Brian May on guitar.

The band had two No. 1 hits in the United States, “Another One Bites the Dust” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, both released in 1980. Mercury died in 1991 at the age of 45 after a four-year battle with HIV, while Deacon retired from the band six years later in 1997. Nevertheless, May and Taylor remain active with Queen, most performing recently But The Rhapsody Tour With the band’s current lead singer, Adam Lambert.

Although Queen and Lambert don’t have any concerts scheduled at the moment, that hasn’t stopped May from doing what he does best. The renowned guitarist is set to perform at Starmus VIII, the global science and music festival taking place in the Canary Islands, Spain, from October 17-22.

The Queen shared news of May’s appearance on the opening night of Star Wars VIII (17 October) on social media, and announced that she would be joined by other guests including Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and English singer Sarah Brightman. The evening will also see the presentation of two honours, the Stephen Hawking Medal and the Jane Goodall Earth Medal.

“Sturms VIII – Brian May will play Celebration in Teneriffe,” Queen wrote on Instagram. “The Festival’s opening ceremony on October 17 will bring together science, music and culture in a unique celebration, featuring Andrea Bocelli, @brianmayforreal with Sir Brian May and Sarah Brightman, the Las Palmas Symphony Orchestra and the @starmus All Stars Band. The evening will also feature the presentation of the Stephen Hawking Medal and the Jane Goodall Earth Medal. Additional artists and participants will be announced in the coming months.”

The eighth edition of the Starmus Festival will take place in the event’s most common locations, Tenerife and La Palma in the Canary Islands, with previous locations in Norway, Switzerland, Armenia, Slovakia and Washington DC.
