A 1986 Honda Z50J Monkey has been transformed into one of the most unusual tributes the world has ever seen. mad Max. Now listed for sale on Bring a Trailer, the tiny custom recreates Jim Goose’s famous Kawasaki KZ1000 from the original 1979 film, proving that imagination can easily make up for a lack of engine capability.

A true tribute in short form

Instead of using the powerful Kawasaki KZ1000 powered by the main Force Patrol, the builder started with a simple 49cc Honda Z50J Monkey. Despite its small proportions, the attention to detail is remarkable.

The bike features a hand-built bikini fairing inspired by the original machine, complete with a smoked windscreen, blue police-style lights and siren, crash bars, panniers and metallic paintwork that is instantly reminiscent of the iconic movie bike.

From a distance it really looks like Goose’s famous motorcycle. However, upon closer inspection its miniature scale becomes apparent, making the homage even more striking.

Big screen looks with monkey performance

Under the cinematic bodywork, the motorcycle remains mechanically standard, with Honda’s reliable 49cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine mated to a four-speed gearbox.

The performance naturally doesn’t come close to the film’s inspiration, but that was never the intention. This monkey was clearly made for fun, drawing smiles from motorcycle enthusiasts mad Max Fans wherever it appears.

Another example of Monkey’s unlimited custom potential

Over the years, the Honda Monkey has become one of the world’s favorite platforms for custom builders, inspiring replicas of machines like the Honda Africa Twin, Harley-Davidson Customs, and countless other creative projects.

it mad Max-inspired build joins that long list, standing out for its confident styling and the amusing contrast between the intimidating Kawasaki KZ1000 and the tiny dimensions of the Honda Monkey.

Rather than chase absolute performance, it celebrates creativity while paying homage to one of cinema’s most iconic motorcycles.
