DeGia signs with KTM as 2027 MotoGP grid takes shape
Fabio Di Gianantonio will switch to Red Bull KTM Factory Racing from 2027, with the Italian signing a multi-year deal to race the KTM RC16 in MotoGP.
This signing adds another major part to KTM’s 2027 factory rebuild, which comes with previously confirmed Alex Marquez transfers to Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.
Together, both deals point to a significant shift in KTM’s flagship range strategy, with the Austrian manufacturer moving aggressively to secure proven race-winning talent for the next phase of the RC16 project.
Di Gianantonio has steadily established himself as one of the strongest names on the MotoGP grid. The 27-year-old Roman is one of the few riders to have won races in Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP and his 2026 form has underlined why KTM is now on the move.
In the opening ten rounds of the 2026 season, ‘Diggia’ have achieved three Grand Prix podiums, including one win, as well as four sprint podiums, placing them in the top three of the championship standings and placing them firmly in the title conversation.
His rise has not been sudden, but substantial. Di Gianantonio made his full-time Grand Prix debut in 2016, finished runner-up in the Moto3 World Championship in 2018, then moved up to Moto2 where he claimed podiums and race wins before stepping up to MotoGP in 2022.
After a learning year in the premier class, he made a clear breakthrough in 2023, scoring his first MotoGP podium at Phillip Island before claiming a memorable first premier-class win in Qatar.
The combination of speed, race craft and recent consistency has made Di Giannantonio one of the most desirable riders on the market, especially as MotoGP prepares for the next major technical cycle from 2027.
For KTM, the signing represents more than just another high-profile rider change. It gives the factory a front-running Italian with proven Ducati-era speed, a rider still entering the strongest years of his career, and someone with momentum behind him heading towards the next reset of the championship.
Pit Bearer – KTM Motorsports Director
“Fabio has clearly made a step forward to become one of the consistent leaders in MotoGP. We cannot question his speed and commitment to delivering the best performances. He is a strong team player and a good guy, who we know will easily fit into our Red Bull KTM Factory Racing project. During our conversation we were impressed by how passionate he is to give the maximum on and off the track, and we are confident that the next chapter together will be exciting and It will be memorable. Welcome Fabio.”
With Di Giannantonio now on a multi-year deal, and Alex Marquez already confirmed as part of KTM’s 2027 work plans, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing is clearly not waiting for the regulation reset to arrive before making its intentions clear.
The orange corner of the MotoGP paddock is going to be very interesting to watch in 2027 – whether it provides tantrums, victories, or a fair slice of both.
