Dennis James reveals the one bodybuilding mistake he regrets most

on episode 289 The Menace Podcast, Dennis James was joined by Jose Raymond and Milos Saracev and the host shared the things he told People when asked if he would change anything about his career.

Competition in three decadesDennis James became Mister Universe in the 90s, Europa Super Show winner in the 2000s, and Masters Mister Olympia contender in 2012. Meneses competed in an astonishing ten Mr. Olympia competitions during his career, placing in the top five, reaching fourth place in 2003. But despite his immense success in muscle, James believes that paying more attention to the finer details could have brought him even more trophies.

Why Dennis James believes posing is more important than most athletes realize

During the show, James revealed that he would place less emphasis on chasing his competitors for size. He told his fellow panelists how he could have achieved even greater success, “I would give all my attention to posing.” “If I could change, if I could turn back time I would pose the fuck up.”

Meneses also considered adjustments he could make to his training to prioritize his routine. “Out of the two hours I did cardio, I would do just one hour and one hour posing,” he said.

How Posing Can Improve Your Bodybuilding Results

James recalled the day when, while training with Milos Saracev, he would be reluctant to practice his posing after a lifting session, as he felt his muscles were too weak. Now, The Menace says that he will take off his shirt when asked to practice his posing, if given that time. “Melvin Anthony was one of them,” he recalled. “He couldn’t keep his shirt on for very long. But you could see, on stage, he held his shirt, and it was always perfect.”

James says that now, whenever he is asked for advice, the legendary bodybuilder always tells contenders to work on their presentation. “When you step on the stage, no one asks you how much you bench or how many reps you do,” he said. “They want to see how you look, and if you don’t practice posing, how will you get on stage?”

Milos Sarasev agreed, saying that posing was a way to develop control and reduce the size of the stomach. “And for posing, the biggest thing is to maintain that midsection,” he explained. “From every angle, that’s all.”
