Bruce Short – Standing Style

Bruce Short - Standing Style

new ps shorts are live today and they are – as one reader cleverly guessed – a continuation of Our Popular Bruce Chinos Launched in spring.

This was done for two reasons. One, we love the material and casual feel of chinos; And two, it makes it a lot easier for everyone to size up, because they can buy the same size in shorts as they did in chinos.

In fact, they can buy the same color if they want, as the beige and khaki colors that PS shorts come in are the same color. They are both perfect, exactly what we wanted.

We’ve also added a dark menswear navy that I know will be popular. Navy is more useful as a short than trousers, in my experienceBut if push comes to shove I can also see us making a navy version of the chinos at the end of the year if there’s a lot of demand. tell me.

So, shorts are available in similar sizes and, like chinos, are comfortable and easy fit. I would not recommend choosing your size based on your height old ps shorts, Because they fit in a different way (thin, low, pleated).

The shape of the new shorts was also inspired by an old US military pair I have Featured on PS in the past. This helped determine things like leg opening and inseam. This is much easier when you have an old garment that you already love and you can take small pieces of it.

so there’s one in shorts 14.5 cm (5.7 inches) The size 48 inseam I wear (above) is a nice mid-point – not the traditional Bahama dress short that ends at the knees, but not scandalous when you sit 3 inches.

On Lucas, pictured below, in size 54, that inseam rises a bit to 16 cm.

And the leg opening is comfortable and wide without being too wide. On me it’s 32 cm, on Lucas it’s 35 cm.

A note here – when you first get the shorts, I think they may feel a little wide because they are pressed flat. If you iron them a bit to get rid of the harsh folds at the seams, or simply fold them like you would tailor trousers, you’ll get a better feel for the shape.

Like chinos, shorts are sized based on the jacket’s chest size, the industry does the same for trousers, although when you think about it, it doesn’t make much sense. Everything is essentially inherited from the suite system.

However any savvy customer like a PS reader will look at the size chart, and the waist measurement there is the best place to start. My waist measurement is a little less than 34 inches, and so I wear a size 48 in shorts and chinos, which have a 34-inch waist.

We’ve expanded the range of sizes significantly, so hopefully there will be one for everyone. Note that the volumes will not be larger at smaller sizes.

As always, we’ve taken some photos here to show not only how the shorts look, but also what we’d wear them with.

We talked in the Chinos article about how versatile this particular shade of beige is, and while it matches well with many other obvious things – white, blue, navy, bright colors – it also looks good with black, showing what a light and cool color it is.

this is it black handmade cotton sweater I’m wearing boat shoes from PS and Jacques Marie Madge sunglasses.

With the khaki/olive color (below) I’m wearing my old Ralph Lauren popovers – actually something I realize now, too Shown with old PS shorts Too. Such a habitual creature.

Finally, Lucas, in his more casual way, is wearing dark navy with a Rubetto work shirt and dark gray city-mocks from Saman Emel.

Come to think of it, this is basically the same top I’m wearing – cream, textured, non-clutching. Maybe we’ve started dressing like each other.

On navy, note that the color will fade a little over time, but not too much, as the material has already been pre-washed.
