The new Breitling Top Time B01 Chronograph 41 pays homage to the Aston Martin DB5, capturing the spirit of both the Top Time worn by Bond as well as his favorite car. Offered in three executions, it is housed in a cushion-shaped, 100m water-resistant case somewhat reminiscent of thunderball Watch as the tasteful wood-grain inlays echo the DB5’s steering wheel trim. Depending on how fancy you want to get, you can opt for the stainless steel version with a silver dial, which is limited to 1,022 pieces; Steel and platinum version with black lacquered dial, limited to 315 pieces; Or the 18K red gold version with onyx dial, limited to 250 pieces. In a first for Breitling, it made the latter’s dial from a single piece of genuine onyx. everyone is still doing it stone-dial thing!
No matter which execution you choose, some details help to bring out Aston Martin Connections: “Squarkle” – meaning a combination of square and circle – chronograph sub-dials inspired by dashboard instruments; The wooden travel which housed the tachymeter scale; Corners of oval case; Brown calfskin leather strap with beige lining and a folding clasp. Even the steel execution feels like an elevated take on a typical complication – especially with the sapphire caseback that allows you to view Breitling’s COSC-certified Manufacture Caliber B01 movement. Offering smooth column-wheel operation and a 70-hour power reserve, it features an Aston Martin-engraved rotor in rhodium plating or 18K red gold, depending on the version.
Not everyone can refuse to buy a $1 million-plus post-war British car like the DB5. But wearing a new Breitling isn’t a bad thing.
