Former WWE Champion Sheamus has reportedly rejected a contract extension and plans to leave the company when his current deal expires.
according to conflicted selectionSheamus (real name Stephen Farrelly) rejected a “restructured extension” and will be leaving WWE after his deal expires. It is unclear when his WWE contract will expire, but Fightful said it is expiring soon.
Adding more confusion to this development? during an appearance on “Insights with Chris Van Vliet” In January 2025 (h/t struggling), Sheamus announced that he had signed a five-year extension with WWE and would be returning “until the wheels come off.”
Now, exactly a year after announcing a five-year extension, the former world champion’s deal is set to expire.
Sheamus, who has been out since late November due to a shoulder injury, is one of WWE’s longest-tenured Superstars. He joined the company in 2007 and was promoted to the main roster in late 2009, eventually defeating John Cena to win his first WWE Championship.

Sheamus will soon become the latest notable name to leave WWE in 2026. Following WrestleMania 42, the company parted ways with New Day, Kairi Sane, Wyatt Six Stable, Apollo Cruz, Zelina Vega, and Aleister Black.
It seemed as if the 48-year-old Sheamus’ career in WWE was coming to an end, so it would be interesting to know more details behind his decision to turn down an extension.
