Ángel Nieto to Enter FIM Hall of Fame Posthumously on 13 November

Angel Nieto, one of motorcycle racing’s most legendary figures, will be posthumously inducted into the FIM Hall of Fame on Friday, November 13, 2026. The ceremony will take place at the Racing Motorcycle Museum (RMM) in Mies, Switzerland.

The induction honours Nieto’s monumental impact on the Grand Prix motorcycle racing world. He will be represented by his sons Pablo and Gelete, and the Spanish icon’s legacy will be celebrated alongside four other motorsport legends.

Nieto’s career and legacy

Ángel Nieto Roldán, born January 25, 1947, in Zamora, Spain, remains etched in history as a pioneering force in motorcycle racing. His career boasts an extraordinary tally of 13 World Championship titles—six in the 50cc class and seven in 125cc—making him second only to Giacomo Agostini in the all-time world titles ranking.

Nieto’s 90 Grand Prix victories place him among the sport’s elite winners. Notoriously superstitious, Nieto referred to his 13 titles as “12+1,” avoiding the unlucky number 13.

After retiring from competition, Nieto continued shaping the sport’s future as a team manager, guiding riders like Emilio Alzamora to the 125cc World Championship crown in 1999. He also became a respected television commentator and consultant in Spain, inspiring successive generations of Iberian riders.

His name lives on through the Circuito de Jerez—officially renamed Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto—and the former Angel Nieto Team, once affiliated with Aspar and later CFMOTO.

Four other legends join the ceremony

The FIM Hall of Fame induction event, running from 14:00 to 15:30 at the RMM, will also honour four other titans: Jordi Tarrés (FIM TrialGP), Tony Rickardsson (FIM SpeedwayGP), Stéphane Peterhansel (FIM RallyGP/FIM EnduroGP), and Stefan Everts (FIM MXGP).

Each inductee will receive a dedicated video tribute, a handprint ceremony designed for photographers, and a speech from the honoree or their representatives.

Handprints hold profound symbolism within the FIM Hall of Fame, representing the “right hand gripping the throttle, controlling power, and deciding every corner’s outcome.” They also honour the hands behind the scenes—writers, photographers, mechanics, organisers, and first responders—those who push boundaries, create possibilities, and chronicle the sport’s history.

These imprints serve as enduring beacons, inspiring and guiding future generations.

FIM President Jorge Viegas expressed the significance of this landmark event: “The FIM Hall of Fame allows us to pay tribute to riders whose achievements have shaped motorcycle sport and continue to inspire new generations. Each of these five champions holds a special place in our history, and it will be a privilege to celebrate them all together. Honouring Angel Nieto alongside his sons will be an especially powerful moment. Bringing these legends closer to our fans enables us to share their stories and ensure their contributions to our sport are never forgotten.”

Public access and autograph sessions

The museum will be open to the public throughout the day, with fans invited to witness the induction ceremony at 14:00, followed by autograph sessions and meet-and-greets with Tarrés, Rickardsson, Peterhansel, and Everts.

This event promises a unique opportunity to pay homage to some of the most iconic figures in motorcycle racing history, immortalising their impact on the sport for generations to come.
