Next-gen Toyota Fortuner to reveal on December 1, 2026
India launch expected in early 2027
Toyota will reveal the next generation of its flagship ladder-frame SUV, the Toyota Fortuner, on December 1, 2026. Set to receive its first major overhaul after nearly a decade on sale, the next-gen Fortuner will make its global debut before heading to dealerships in India in 2027. The full-sized 7-seater SUV will come with revised exterior styling, modern interior technology, and mild-hybrid diesel powertrain.
1. New Exterior Design and Platform
The all-new Fortuner will continue to be based on the rugged body-on-frame platform, sharing updated underpinnings with the latest Toyota Hilux pickup truck. The SUV has already been caught testing multiple times on the Indian roads.
The SUV will have a more upright, commanding stance. It will come with an all-new front fascia, featuring a larger front grille, a redesigned bumper, and slimmer LED headlight clusters. At the back, the SUV will have a revised tailgate structure and a connected LED light bar stretching across the width. The next Fortuner will have thick body cladding, squared wheel arches, newly designed alloy wheels and a panoramic sunroof.
2. Interior Upgrades & Tech Enhancements
The cabin will receive significant update, featuring modern tech inspired by the new Hilux lifestyle pickup. The SUV will drop the older 8-inch setup in favour of a 12.3-inch floating infotainment touchscreen paired with a fully digital 12.3-inch driver’s instrument cluster.
In terms of features, the next-gen Toyota Fortuner will have a panoramic sunroof, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree surround view camera, ventilated and powered front seats, multi-colour ambient lighting, and a wireless smartphone charging pad.
3. Engine & Drivetrain: 48V Mild-Hybrid Specs
The next-gen Fortuner will be powered by a 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system (Electric Motor + 48V Battery). The engine produces 201 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic unit. Both rear-wheel drive (4×2) and 4×4 drivetrain options will be on offer.
Toyota will be integrating its 48-volt Neo Drive mild-hybrid technology as a standard feature across diesel variants. This system uses a belt-driven electric motor-generator to assist during acceleration and recover energy during deceleration.
4. Safety Features
The next-gen Toyota Fortuner will receive the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) Level-2 ADAS suite. Key active features will include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist and lade departure warning, blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. It will continue to be offered with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, traction control and 360-degree surround view camera.
5. Launch Timeline & Market Expectations
