Ammerman is open about how hard the shift to electric is. Range, charging, weight, price and the step into something unfamiliar all shape a rider’s decision. In his view, the brand has to earn that confidence through the quality of the motorcycle and the experience of owning it.

Some of the most productive meetings at the show were with engineering specialists and technology partners. According to Ammerman, those talks have made GR1T more confident that meaningful range gains are achievable. They also helped the team decide where to focus its development work.

An intelligent motorcycle, secure by design

Alongside the powertrain, GR1T is putting a lot of weight on what it calls an intelligent motorcycle. Connected systems should help the company understand how the bike performs in real-world conditions, manage energy more efficiently, detect problems early and give the rider relevant information when it matters. Ammerman notes that this takes engineering depth across hardware, software, data analysis, communications, IoT and machine learning.

Cybersecurity sits at the core of that work

Cybersecurity sits at the core of that work. “As motorcycles become more connected, we take on greater responsibility for protecting the vehicle, its software and the rider’s data,” Ammerman says. GR1T wants that responsibility built into the architecture from the start and kept up for the motorcycle’s whole lifecycle.

Openness from Chinese suppliers

Ammerman singles out the company’s conversations with Chinese firms as one of the most encouraging parts of this year’s EICMA. He points to the breadth of engineering talent, the range of technologies on offer and a clear willingness to work with startups.

For a young manufacturer, he says, that openness is crucial. GR1T needs partners who will take an ambitious idea seriously, work through the engineering challenges together and help turn it into a working product. In many of the Chinese teams it met, the company found that mix of technical competence, curiosity and commercial drive. “We should not be surprised when Chinese technology succeeds,” Ammerman adds. In his view, that success is deserved and comes from hard work and the courage to compete.

Ammerman closed by thanking visitors, suppliers, supporters and the GR1T team, who have backed the company over its first four years.
