Ducati CEO says after word of sale spreads, 'We don't really need VW.'

Recently a report has come The Financial Times It was said that Volkswagen’s current financial situation requires major changes within the global organization. And because of that, it was possibly considering selling parts of its business, including Ducati.

When contacted for comment, a VW spokesperson did not deny the rumors ride separately, That being said, all options are on the table, meaning a sale of Ducati was possible. Thus, and as you would expect from such a non-denial, speculation ran rampant that VW was looking for a buyer for Ducati and possibly Lamborghini.

Now, however, Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali has weighed in on the issue, and the executive was defiant in his statements about a potential sale, his words implying, “Sell us or don’t sell us, we don’t need VW.”

talking to mcnews“The company is in a very good position. It’s also completely self-sufficient. We don’t really need support from (VW) to make our investment plan for the future, to create new models. It’s a very solid investment plan,” Domenicali told the outlet.

And indeed, Ducati has been investing in its lineup, introducing several new models and making changes over the past year. It has seen some slight declines in overall sales, with the biggest declines occurring in the Chinese market due to increased competition, but Ducati’s lineup has grown and is aiming to cater to a younger crowd with its motorbikes and recently introduced supermotos. These, with updated or brand new motorcycles now in its lineup, will probably take a second for the market to adopt.

That said, tariffs remain a continuing concern, as does the world economic outlook, which Ducati addressed in its article 2025 Q4 sales A report summarizing a company’s year.

However, Domenicali said, “At the moment, there are no discussions taking place at Borgo Panigale,” in relation to VW telling Ducati that it is considering a sale, and, “It is part of the shareholder possibility, depending on their needs, to buy a new company or do some divestitures. So it is not something that is completely impossible, but really at the moment, there is nothing going on at Borgo Panigale.”

For now, Ducati remains in VW’s leadership. However, how long that lasts is up in the air. But Domenicali sounds clearly optimistic about Ducati’s future. Whether it’s with VW or not.
