The ‘LT’ here stands for lightweight, a new offering from US brand Osprey for 2026. The backpack has the same reliable performance as the original Kestrel/Kite series, but with a more streamlined, lightweight design.

Specifically, the materials used in the LT backpack are lighter, the internal frame is more streamlined, and features like external strapping and gear lashing points have been repurposed for faster and lighter adventures.

Both versions still have Osprey’s iconic Airscape back panel, torso-length adjustment, built-in raincover, side-zip access and impressive interior organization. What’s different now is that you have two great options to choose from instead of one, depending on what your hiking trip looks like.

According to Osprey, standard Kestrel/Kite packs are built for maximum durability and heavy load carrying, while LT packs are engineered for efficient dayhiking, fastpacking, or overnight trips where weight saving is the primary goal.
