Maserati introduced its Nettuno V6 in 2020 with the arrival of the MC20 sports car (now MCpura). The brand’s first in-house engine in more than 20 years has found its way everywhere from grayscale SUVs to Gran Turismo – and it’s not going anywhere. But it will evolve.
Speaking to Maserati executives during the launch of the latest 2027 model, the company confirmed that the Nettuno V6 will have a bigger role in the lineup over the next few years. As COO Santo Fisili clearly says:
‘I personally love this engine.’
But as many of its competitors have done recently, Maserati has hybridization plans for the Nettuno V6 in the near future. Cristiano Fiorio, Maserati’s chief marketing officer, says:
‘We see a hybrid future for Nettuno, because it’s another type of performance we can achieve. It also provides additional value to the customer in the future.
That said, don’t expect to see the plug on any future hybrid models from Maserati. The company says customers looking for plug-in electrification have Folgore models to choose from, while future hybrids will remain conventional:
‘Our product portfolio includes both low-voltage hybridization—meaning 48-volt—and, ultimately, high-voltage hybridization. “We are not looking for a solution with plug-in hybrids… So, mild hybridization, high-voltage hybridization, no plug-in hybridization.”
It’s still unclear which model will get hybridization with the Nettuno engine first, but we’d expect to see that setup on the Grayscale SUV before it reaches the Gran Turismo and other models.

Motor1’s Opinion: It makes sense that Maserati would take steps to add hybridization to its Nettuno V6. With the hybrid four-cylinder gone from the Grayscale lineup, some form of electrification is needed.
