Who steals motorcycles from a riding school in the spring? apparently someone in alaska

It’s the beginning of June, and that means all the schools offering motorcycle education courses in the Northern Hemisphere are in full swing. This certainly goes for the ABATE of Anchorage rider education course in Alaska. Only, it’s about to get even more difficult now, because the nonprofit Rider School had not one, not two, but eight entire motorcycles stolen earlier this week.

This is fully half of the 16 bikes they have available for teaching students. If you’ve gone through MSF’s Basic RiderCourse before, you know how helpful it is when a school that teaches beginners already has bikes available for their students to train on. Unsurprisingly, the school told local Anchorage news station KTUU that its bookings have been good since the riding season in Alaska is so short, and it could see hundreds of students making their way through the course in a single session.

The school keeps its motorcycles in closed trailers on site, which is a common practice among schools offering this type of training. Overnight, between June 7 and June 8, 2026, someone (and given the number of bikes involved, possibly more than one person) broke into a trailer and stole eight of the school’s bikes.

Since the initial reporting of this incident which you can see in this video. Six of the eight stolen bikes have been recovered.. Apparently, the last bike came with the bonus of eight tires and a full can of gas, which is probably extra helpful considering the price of fuel these days.

The recovered bikes were found during the week, with three of them on Monday and two additional bikes on Tuesday. ABATE of Anchorage is hoping to work with the local police department to locate and recover all of the missing bikes.

If you or someone you know is in the area and has any information, you can get here to school. Also, if you are in Alaska and looking to learn to ride, you can also check out that link for more information.
