Excelling in the men’s classic physique, Wesley Visser is building momentum for the 2026 Olympia final. Solid win at Arnold Classic And Detroit Pro, and Dutch Oak recently shared that his favorite quad crusher might be one of bodybuilding’s most underrated exercises: the sissy squat.
In particular, Visser, who has received praise for packing some size on her legs in recent months, leans into the hack squat machine to slave over her sisters. “It not only stretches the quads up, but also the hips and ankles at the same time,” the big man explained.
What is a sissy squat?
The sissy squat differs from the regular squat in that the back does not remain parallel to vertical. Instead, the lifter will move onto their toes as the weight is lowered, causing the back to become more horizontal. Then, as the weight returns, the feet become flat and the back returns to a straight position. “More range of motion, more stretch = more muscle development,” said Lol Visser in a recent Instagram demonstration. “Try these before any normal squat or leg press movements and you’ll be surprised.”
It makes sense to combine the humble hack squat with the sissy hack squat because the hack squat will destroy the entire quad muscle, while the sissy will target the front of the thigh. In a previous post, Visser also detailed his perspective.
Wesley Visser Sissy Squat / Hack Squat Superset
“This may be the best superset for your quads,” Visser shared his upper leg building strategy in a previous post. “Try it if you dare.”
Setting himself up on the Hack Squat Machine, Vissers explained that since the Sissy Squat is one of the hardest variations, he likes to persist with it until failure. But once you do, try not to think your work is done, says Dutch Oak. He adds, “This is a superset because we go into the regular hack squat, which is obviously much stronger and easier to do.” “So, you can actually do a lot more reps with the regular hack squat when your quads are already ‘toasted’ with the sissy hack squat. This is an incredible, safe and effective superset to do. Try it yourself.”
