Drag racing is one thing, but climbing a hill, especially when it’s nearly 200 feet up, is quite another. Of course, it’s fun to see both of them in different ways; But the magical part of hill climbing is that it feels a little looser; A little more rest. Don’t get me wrong; Adrenaline is still very high.
But generally speaking, you don’t usually see five bikes lined up to go head-to-head at a drag strip, and you’ll see that happen in this video.
The event took place at Glen Helen in San Bernardino, California; A place that is dear to the hearts of Motocross fans everywhere. The event is filled with all types of people and all types of machines; You’ll see plenty of dirt bikes, vintage bikes, Harleys, quads, and even a few tricycles testing their mettle on a hill so steep that climbing up (let alone climbing up) can prove difficult.
To get it right you have to create a special balance, this kind of hill climbing. First of all, you need the right tires (especially on the rear). Horsepower and torque can help, but if you’re not going fast enough to build the speed you need, that can also be a problem.
It’s really important to build that momentum to move yourself up; Just ask the kid riding the YZ85 who you’ll see in this video. I won’t spoil what happens there, but I will tell you that the guys you see in this video made it out without any injuries, because of course that’s what we love to see. We want to see people have fun and not get hurt.
Overall, it looks like a pretty fun time, and something you don’t see every day (even with machines you don’t). Dirt is flying, but the waves are spotless.
