Ozark Trail 70L Ripstop Duffel Bag, from $39 (was $43)
Why do we like this deal?
A duffel bag that converts to a backpack solves a real problem for anyone who has to carry heavy luggage to the airport, a campsite, or anywhere else. But most bags made for that hybrid use come from premium outdoor brands and charge accordingly, putting them out of reach for those who don’t want to spend hundreds. That’s why Walmart’s $39 Ozark Trail Duffel Bag is worth a look — it’s a hybrid carrier, made of sturdy fabric, and it has many similarities with these more expensive options.
Normally priced at $43, which is already an attractive price, the 70-Liter Ozark Trail Ripstop Duffel Bag is now just $39 at Walmart. This best-selling duffel is only on sale in blue, but if you want a different color the other two options are only $4 more. What’s special about this bag is its size – finding a 70-liter bag made of ripstop material that has both handles and straps for multifunctional carry is rare, but finding one for less than $40 puts it in unicorn territory. The only question we have so far is how it compares to bigger outdoor brands like REI and The North Face. Here’s what we know.

What shoppers need to know
- Material: Coated polyester ripstop, water resistant
- Capacity: 70 liters, holds up to 50 pounds
- features: Comes with tuckable backpack straps, side shoe pocket, front pocket, a storage bag
- Best for: Weekend Trips, Camping, Gym, Travel
The backpack conversion option is the main upgrade here compared to the normal duffel, with tuckable straps you can tuck for duffel mode and untuck for backpack mode. The coated ripstop fabric is water-resistant, and dedicated shoe pockets keep dirty gear separated (not a detail you often see in budget duffels). For storage, you get 70 liters of space, and the bag can hold up to 50 pounds of gear.
Reviewers of Ozark Trail’s duffel (and other products) compare it to name brands, and the comparison is in Ozark Trail’s favor, admittedly, more than expected. The North Face’s Base Camp Voyager (62 liters) and REI’s Big Haul (60 liters) both offer heavier fabrics and more reinforced stitching, but both run $100 more than this bag and offer slightly less filling capacity (they’re the closest comparable models).
This duffel has the same basic functionality as the other two, but at such a price it becomes harder to justify name-brand versions unless the extra ruggedness is really necessary.

what shoppers are saying
One helpful shopper wrote, “It’s big enough to carry and handle a weekend trip,” and another said it’s “just the right size for travel.” A third reviewer said, “Not only does this bag look like a high-end piece of outdoor gear, but I would say the quality is very close as well.”
That amazing quality is a common theme, and when pitted against big-name brands, Ozark Trail makes its point: “Very comparable to other more expensive brands – as I’ve found with most OT gear.” Another shopper wrote, “It looks the same as my North Face duffel and at a fraction of the price.”
The Ozark Trail Ripstop Duffel Bag is available now at Walmart for $39. Since there is only one color option on sale, it’s a good idea to purchase one before they run out.
