Vespa celebrates 80 years with the “Otantessimo Edition”

Vespa kicked off its 80th anniversary celebrations in Rome with the presentation of the new Vespa Ottantissimo Edition. The model was showcased at the Foro Italico and comes as a numbered series limited to 1,946 units, a direct tribute to the year of the brand’s birth.

The Ottentessimo Edition brings together eight decades of stories, culture and design that shaped the Vespa into an Italian icon. The brand describes the model as a meeting point between heritage and modernity, created for collectors and enthusiasts who value exclusivity.

The scooter is built on the Vespa GTS 310 platform and retains the traditional steel body that has defined the model since its origins. Vespa highlights it as the purest expression of its identity, strengthening the connection between the original concept and today’s interpretation.

The special paintwork takes inspiration from raw steel, giving the scooter a textured, industrial look. Vespa explains that the finish aims to highlight the authenticity of the exposed metal, while blending it with sophisticated details and contemporary color accents.

A unique shade of green has been used on the seat and wheels, reminiscent of the early single-color Vespas. The seat has a monoposto look with a removable body-coloured rear cover inspired by classic racing Vespas, although it is symmetrical for two riders.

The wheels reinterpret the closed stamped-steel design of the historic 1946 Vespa 98, now enhanced with a diamond-cut rim channel. The combination strengthens the connection between past and present while maintaining a clean, modern execution.

A three-dimensional “80” graphic appears on the side panel, framed by lines mirroring Vespa’s hexagonal emblem. The shape is also reminiscent of the head of a bolt, highlighting the craftsmanship and manual work that has always been part of the brand’s identity.

Each unit includes a numbered plate located beneath the seat, cementing its collectible status. Vespa also offers a dedicated helmet finished in the same matte gray as the bodywork, complemented by green details and an anniversary “80” graphic on the rear.

The Ottantissimo version uses a 310 hp single-cylinder engine with 25 hp, the most powerful engine ever fitted to a Vespa. Standard equipment includes full LED lighting, a 5-inch color TFT display and full integration with the VESPA MIA connectivity system.

Keyless operation, courtesy lights in the leg-shield and under-seat compartment, ASR traction control and ABS braking are also part of the standard package. Vespa says the goal was to seamlessly combine classic style with modern technology.

The model can be personalized with a 36‑litre top case painted in the same color as the bodywork and compatible with a matching padded backrest. The full range of official Vespa accessories is also available, including front and rear racks, perimeter guards, screens and electronic anti-theft systems.

The Vespa Ottentessimo Edition is available to order online through the official website. Vespa expects strong demand, especially from collectors who value limited-production models.

Each scooter is accompanied by a special book produced by Assouline, a luxury publisher known for its design-focused editions. The book celebrates the Vespa myth through archival images and rare material from Piaggio’s collection, tracing the evolution and cultural impact of the world’s most iconic scooter.
