Hurricane Fausto is headed toward Hilo, Hawaii and the National Hurricane Center has provided maps and trackers with forecasts.
“Fausto is moving west” and “expected to move into the central Pacific on Sunday morning,” According to the National Hurricane CenterIn the warning of July 25.
Fausto is located 1,140 miles east of Hilo, Hawaii, according to the NHC. “Maximum sustained winds” of 100 mph. “Current speed…14 mph at W or 280 degrees…22 km/h minimum central pressure…971 mb…28.68 inches,” NHC says.

National Hurricane Center says winds could reach 100 MPH
“Confidence is increasing on the track of Hurricane Fausto, which remains a Category 2 hurricane and moving west at about 14 mph,” according to Kauai News Now. The site noted that this is not a “sure thing”.
“An impact forecasters at the National Weather Service National Hurricane Center in Honolulu and in Miami agree that dangerous – life threatening – surge waves are likely in the islands by July 26, well in advance of any other impacts and the storm’s arrival in the area.”

At 11 a.m., “The center of Hurricane Fausto was located near latitude 19.3 north, longitude 137.6 west. Fausto is moving to the west near 14 mph (22 km/h), and that is normal
Speed is expected to continue for the next several days,” NHC said. “Maximum sustained winds are near 100 mph (155 km/h) with peak gusts. “Gradual weakening is expected during the next several days.”
Hurricane-force winds can extend up to 40 miles outward
Hurricane-force winds “extend outward up to 40 mi (65 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 185 mi (295 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 971 mb (28.68 inHg).

The surf generated by Fausto “is expected to begin building on the east-facing shores of Hawaii’s eastern tip on Sunday, spread westward Sunday night into Monday, and continue building through Tuesday as Fausto approaches and moves through the area. These
Waves are likely to pose a threat to life and cause disruption in current conditions. Please seek product advice from your local weather office.”
Fausto is expected to weaken as it approaches the Hawaiian Islands early next week. While the potential for the strongest winds and heaviest rainfall remains off the coast north of the islands, those interested across Hawaii should continue to monitor Fausto’s progress.

Confidence is high that waves generated by Fausto will reach the Hawaiian Islands well in advance of the cyclone, causing surges and dangerous surges. Surf is expected to begin building on the east-facing beaches of the eastern end of the state on Sunday, spreading westward Sunday night into Monday, and continuing to build through Tuesday as Fausto approaches and moves through the area.
