Tom Holland and Matt Damon give a master class on dressing for your age

christopher nolan’s odyssey It’s shaping up to be the biggest movie of the summer, but there aren’t many hopes for it being a menswear movie. Fair enough. Nothing against gladiator sandals, leather skirts and Marvin the Martian helmets, but their usefulness in a contemporary wardrobe is minimal. Despite this (or maybe because of it), the artist has been on a serious red-carpet heater in recent weeks, sporting a series of impeccable looks that are as much about the modern tailoring that is her odyssey The costumes are similar to the Sword and Sandal cosplay.

For example, at last night’s New York premiere, Tom Holland and Matt Damon took two different takes on age-appropriate suiting, creating a template for dressing with gravitas and style at any age.

Damon, who is 55 (and has the salt and pepper beard to prove it), appeared dressed from head to toe in Ralph Lauren Purple Label. Lauren’s top-tier tailoring line, which combines classical European silhouettes with top-shelf materials, has been a red-carpet favorite for decades, but — as with any tailored look — the way Damon wore his navy blue suit was far more consequential than the name on the label. The fit was impeccable, with the golden ratio of lapel-to-collar-to-tie ratio polished off with a stunning pair of brown monkstraps and a white pocket square. It’s a look that doesn’t try to reinvent anything, which is exactly what it should be like for a dad in his mid-50s who is comfortable in his own skin and confident about his place in the world.
