Rounds 8/9 – Lima Half Mile Doubleheader
Australian Tom Drain arrived at the Allen County Fairgrounds with a 20-point kicker AFT Singles Championship lead, an impressive recent record in Lima, and the all-time class wins record within reach. He left Ohio with both Lima wins, his fifth consecutive win at the venue, and sole ownership of that AFT singles record.
It was also a strong weekend for the wider Australian contingent. Bodie Page made an impressive Progressive AFT debut with a second place on Friday and a third on Saturday, while Jade Fyfe and Neico Donovan made it an Australian one-three in the final AFT ProSport 450 Main Event of the season.
However, the racing narrative was accompanied by much heavier news. AMA Pro Racing announced that Dan Bromley died following an incident on track during Saturday’s event. Bromley was a third-generation flat track racer, the 2018 AFT Singles Champion and the 2025 AFT AdventureTrackers Champion. MCNews.com.au extends its condolences to Dan’s family, friends, teammates, fellow competitors and the broader American flat track community.

Drain’s Lima trajectory has been building since his Progressive AFT debut in the pea-gravel half-mile in 2022, when he was runner-up to Cody Kopp. In the seasons since, the Estenson Racing Yamaha rider has steadily turned this venue into one of his strongest hunting grounds, and the 2026 doubleheader has only underlined that point.
On Friday night, Drain earned his 23rd career Kicker AFT singles win and tied Kopp for most wins in class history. The final margins suggested a fair wind, but the race was not straightforward at the start.
Walker Porter used the high line to make up ground and was close enough to threaten Drain through the middle stages. A small mistake from Porter gave Drain the chance to take the breather she needed, while fellow Australian Bodie Paige seized the opportunity to take second place in an impressive first Progressive AFT Main Event.

Porter still had a lot to celebrate, finally scoring his first professional podium in third place, while Chase Sathoff dropped from seventh to fourth, finishing less than half a second off the podium. Canadian Jordan Beaulac rounded out the top five, narrowly edging out Cage Tadman.
Saturday was more vigorous from the drain side. Cage Tadman tried to go with the defending champions in the early stages, but the pace needed to keep up with the Australian proved untenable. Drain then went clear at the front and won by a winning margin of 4.525 seconds to take his fifth win of the season, his third straight win of 2026, his fifth consecutive Lima win and the record-setting 24th AFT Singles win of his career.
“It’s amazing to be the winningest solo rider,” Drain said after taking the record.
Saathoff finished second on Saturday ahead of Tadman, while Paige completed her excellent first weekend with another podium in third. Tadman finished fourth, while Daytona winner Braden Pfanders scored his first top-five result since his March success.
Drain now leads the Kicker AFT Singles Championship by 37 points after nine of 16 rounds, with 180 points to Saathoff’s 143, with Tadman third on 140.

Mission AFT Supertwins
At the Mission AFT Supertwins, there was a sharp reversal of fortunes over the weekend. Briar Baumann arrived in Lima with four consecutive premier-class wins and continued that streak on Friday, only for Dallas Daniels to bounce back on Saturday as the title battle tightened again.
Friday’s event used the Mission Triple Challenge format, with overall results decided over three races: a 10-lap sprint, a 15-lap race featuring double points, and a 20-lap race featuring triple points.
It looked like Cody Kopp would hold off Baumann’s attack after winning the first two races, but his night was spoiled in the final stages. Baumann beat Kopp, Davis Fisher and Dallas Daniels also moved ahead, and Kopp’s pace soon faded due to a mechanical problem that ultimately took him out of the race.
Baumann took full advantage, winning the final stage and overall, extending his Supertwins win streak to five. It was also his fifth premier-class win in Lima and the 39th of his career, moving him into fifth place with Ricky Graham on the all-time win list.
Daniels finished second overall on Friday, with Fischer third, while Copp’s 1-1-16 scores dropped him to fourth on the night. Henry Wills rounded out the top five.
Dalton Gauthier’s return to the Moto Anatomy x Royal Enfield event was another notable story. Back on the Royal Enfield 650 for the Lima weekend with Ivan Renshaw unable to compete, Gauthier went 10-7-5 in the three Friday races and finished sixth overall.
The Supertwins title picture changed again on Saturday. Daniels led from the front, but Kopp was never far away, trailing the Estenson Racing Yamaha rider for most of the two-lap main event by more than 10 minutes.
Copp tried to force the case with about a minute remaining but lost time in the attempt, while traffic in the final laps favored Daniels, who cut lappers more cleanly. Daniels won by 1.583 seconds, his second win of the season and his first in six events.
Fischer completed a strong double-podium weekend with a third-place finish on Saturday, ahead of Aidan Roose, Evans and Jeffrey Carver. Bauman’s night went differently. He ran with Daniels and Kopp in the early third before fading, then retired due to a mechanical problem with about two minutes remaining. He was placed in the 14th category.
Saturday’s result put Copp back on top of the Grand National Championship standings, but only by one point over Daniels, 169–168. Baumann dropped to third place on 158, still just 11 points off the lead.
