This man remained bedridden for two years. He now holds the Guinness push-up record

For most people, completing a handful of push-ups with a heavy backpack is tiring. For India’s Rohtash Chaudhary, it became the latest chapter in one of the most inspiring comeback stories in modern fitness.

The 41-year-old, widely known as the “Push-up Man of India”, has officially entered his name in the Guinness World Records book after performing an astonishing 847 push-ups in one hour while carrying a pack weighing 60 pounds (27.21 kg) slung on his back. The remarkable feat achieved at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi eclipsed the previous world record set by Syria’s Sami Joma Hassan in 2023.

This accomplishment is more than an athletic milestone. It represents years of tireless discipline and the triumph of a man who once feared he would never walk properly again.

From life-changing accident to world-class comeback

Long before the applause, certificates and world records, Rohtash Choudhary faced one of the worst phases of his life.

Guinness World Records.

In 2007, he was involved in a serious traffic accident, which left him with serious injuries to his back. The effects were so devastating that he remained bedridden for almost two years, unable to walk normally. Doctors focused on helping him regain the most basic physical functions, and the road to recovery was long, painful, and uncertain.

For a man who always loved physical training and boxing, the accident took away not only his strength but also his independence. Rehabilitation requires extraordinary patience, with every small improvement earned through determination rather than luck.

As his body slowly healed, Chaudhary rediscovered fitness as both therapy and purpose. Each practice became another step toward reclaiming the life he feared he had lost. Instead of allowing tragedy to define him, he turned it into the driving force behind an extraordinary career in endurance sports.

This year is also his tenth consecutive year of breaking world records, proving that his achievements are based on sustained excellence rather than sporadic success.

Four-hour training sessions and disciplined vegetarian lifestyle

Such an extraordinary performance was the result of months and years of disciplined preparation.

Guinness World Records.

Chaudhary is known to start many training days at 4 a.m., devoting approximately four hours to building stamina, strength and mental flexibility. While preparing for his Guinness attempt, he pushed himself toward an astonishing goal of approximately 1,000 push-ups every day, combining high-volume repetitions with weighted variations that closely replicated the conditions of the record challenge.

His philosophy revolves around consistency, focus, progressive overload and careful planning rather than chasing dramatic short-term gains. Videos shared on his Instagram account often feature him performing weighted push-ups and endurance challenges, earning him praise from fitness enthusiasts across India.

Nutrition also plays an important role in their success.

Unlike many elite strength athletes who rely heavily on meat-based protein sources, Chaudhary follows a strict vegetarian diet, which he proudly cites as one of the foundations of his athletic achievements. Indian media interviews have highlighted his disciplined eating habits, with an emphasis on a balanced, protein-rich vegetarian diet designed to support recovery, muscular endurance and sustained energy during tough training sessions.

His disciplined lifestyle extends far beyond physical preparation, with mental conditioning being another important part of his success as he is willing to endure pain and fatigue for long periods of time.

An inspiration beyond the record books

When the official attempt finally came, the biggest challenge was not strength, but maintaining stability while battling fatigue under the constant weight of a 60-pound pack.

Fortunately, he was not alone.

Hundreds of local students gathered inside the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to cheer them during each repetition, creating an electrifying atmosphere that helped them get through the toughest moments. India’s Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya was also present, highlighting the significance of this achievement.

After the final push-up, official adjudicator Ayni Tourbali presented Chaudhary with a Guinness World Records certificate, confirming his place in history.

Apart from competitive fitness, Chaudhary serves as an ambassador for India’s Fit India Movement, encouraging the younger generation to adopt a healthier, more active lifestyle.

Even after adding another world record to his growing collection, he insists the mission is just the beginning.

“The journey is not over yet,” he said after the event. “Every record is just a new beginning.”

For a man who spent nearly two years bedridden after a devastating accident, those words weigh more than 847 push-ups. He embodies resilience, unwavering discipline, and the belief that extraordinary achievements are built one determined repetition at a time.
