This electric Honda Grom makes 63 hp and 542 Nm with hub motor conversion

The Honda Grom converted into an electric custom build is showing how far independent engineering can push a small motorcycle platform. Built by 3C Mini Works in Ohio, this project replaces the original mechanical drivetrain with a powerful hub-mounted electric motor, creating a unique EV conversion with exceptional performance figures.

The build was developed through the workshop’s previous experience converting compact Honda models, including the Ruckus and earlier Grom projects. Ready for this year’s Smoky Mountain Small Bore Rally, the latest build incorporates everything learned from previous builds while focusing on improved performance, reliability, and packaging.

The conversion required a custom rear hub solution, multiple 3D-printed components, and a steel battery enclosure designed to handle the additional weight of the higher-capacity battery pack. The suspension was strengthened with fully adjustable components, while Brembo braking hardware was added to match the increased performance.

63 hp and 542 Nm from a small electric Honda

The end result produces figures that seem almost impossible for a motorcycle of this size. Dyno testing revealed that the electric Honda Grom produces 63 hp and 542 Nm of rear-wheel torque, giving the performance levels of this compact machine far beyond its looks.

The hub-mounted motor eliminates the traditional chain-driven drivetrain, reducing mechanical losses, simplifying the design and creating an extremely quiet riding experience. The electrical wiring between the motor and the controller, which is mounted near the battery, is routed neatly through the swingarm for a clean installation.

Despite producing futuristic sounds during dyno testing, the motorcycle remains remarkably quiet on the road due to the hub motor configuration, which eliminates the noise normally associated with chains, sprockets, and conventional transmissions.

A custom EV build showing the potential of electric motorcycles

The 3C Mini Works Honda Grom is not intended as a production motorcycle, but shows what’s possible when electric technology meets independent engineering and creative manufacturing.

This project goes beyond a simple conversion, showing how a small motorcycle platform can be transformed into a high-performance machine through advanced electric technology, custom components, and detailed craftsmanship.
