If you’re in the market for one of the least expensive pickups in America, the new slate truck starts at just $25,950 (destination fees have not been announced), with the SUV version available for $29,950.

To keep the price so low, Slate doesn’t even paint it, so the truck’s official name is Blank Slate. That’s why the company offers a range of colored covers instead.

This was the perfect opportunity for Slate to partner with the world’s most popular crayon company: Crayola. The Crayola partnership has provided five exclusive colors for the Slate truck and SUV, which are now available for preorder. Here are five special colors, straight out of the crayon box:

  • cerulean (blue)
  • dandelion (yellow)
  • fern (green)
  • Jersey Tomato (Orange)
  • Razzmatazz (Pink)

Owners can install the color themselves, or they can also add Crayola-inspired decals such as a serpentine stripe on the mirrors and colored logos below the doors on the rocker panels. Buyers can also get a special cap for the key fob that matches their chosen exterior color. It looks like Porsche Paint to Sample has a new challenger at a much more affordable price.

Slate will charge $1,549.99 for Crayola wraps, which is significantly more than the classic $499.99 wraps available for trucks and SUVs. The special wrap with the unique rainbow finish costs $669.99, and if you still don’t like any of the available colors (there are several), Slate will sell you a custom wrap for $1,599.99.

That’s a bargain compared to what Porsche charges for paint samples. However, in fairness to Porsche, the paint is permanent.

The Crayola collaboration is one of the first major partnerships from Slate, but it won’t be the last. Under Collabs, the configurator says, “wraps from brands and creators we love,” and there’s another option for a rap from New York artist and filmmaker Max Kolo.


Motor1’s Opinion: If Slate isn’t planning on painting its own vehicles, offering a fun collaboration like a Crayola partnership is a fun way to keep customers excited about ordering their vehicles. We’ve seen a lot of wrapped Cybertrucks roaming around; This could prove to be a smart business move that will ultimately resonate with customers.
