On the Fourth of July, new savings accounts for kids from the Trump administration went live. These ‘Trump accounts’, created as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, are apparently supposed to help families pay for college and other expenses. But Guardian columnist Moira Donegan says these accounts are actually the work of the pronatalist movement, which wants women to have more children – and is backed by powerful right-wingers like JD Vance and Elon Musk. Moira talks to Carter Sherman about the strange allies that make up this movement, including ties to the racist conspiracy theory known as the ‘Great Replacement’.
