The longlist for this year’s Booker Prize, announced on Tuesday, includes 13 books covering a variety of genres, from thriller to dystopian science-fiction to love story.
Two previous winners have again made the prestigious list – Douglas Stuart, who won shuggie bann in 2020, and Marlon James, who won the award in 2015 A Brief History of the Seven Murders. Elizabeth Strout is on the list as a nominee for the third time for her latest work the things we never say. The long list also includes three budding writers.
Mary Beard, chair of judges for the Booker Prize 2026, said in a statement: “Each author on our longlist brilliantly harnesses the power of words on the page to transport readers to new places, to see old places from new angles, and to change minds.”
The Booker Prize is awarded each year to an author for a book published in English in the UK and/or Ireland between 1 October and 30 September. The 2025 award was given to David Szalay. flesh.
The six shortlisted authors will each receive £2,500, approximately $3,300. The winner of the prize, to be announced at a ceremony in London on November 9, will be awarded £50,000, which is a little more than $66,000.
