Well, Godfather of Harlem Fans, in case you haven’t heard, MGM+ has finally decided on the fate of the popular crime drama, more than a year after the show’s last new episode aired. According to an official Press releaseThe show is set to end with a two-hour series finale. Technically, this is considered the official season finale of Season 4, following the events of the last aired episode on June 22, 2025.
Now, fans may still want to temper their anticipation for the upcoming supersized episode as production on the project is set to begin this July, and there is no set release date. However, in some good news, Forest Whitaker is returning as Bumpy Johnson, along with Ilfenesh Hadera as Meme, Antoinette Cro-Legacy as Alice, Eric LaRue Harvey as Dale Chance, and Rome Flynn as Frank Lucas.
What is the ‘Godfather of Harlem’ series finale about?

Naturally, all details and details of the two-hour finale are being kept under lock and key. However, MGM+ released the following summary:
“Bumpy Johnson faces a final reckoning as the walls close in around his empire. With enemies gathering from every direction – political, criminal and personal – Bumpy must use every alliance, every sacrifice and every hard lesson acquired over five seasons to protect what he has built and the people he loves. The two-hour conclusion provides the culmination of Bumpy’s extraordinary saga: a man who rose from the streets of Harlem “Rise up and reshape the power structures of an entire era, and who must do so now must decide what legacy he leaves behind.”
To add more context to this, in the last aired episode of Godfather of HarlemIn “Unity Day”, chaos erupts as Elise’s work with the Black Panthers leads to their young member Jerome (Elijah Wright) attempting to kill Joe Colombo (Michael Raymond-James) at an Italian Unity Day rally. Additionally, Bumpy was heartbroken to learn that his longtime friend and ally, Nat Pettigrew (Elvis Nolasco), had betrayed him and joined Columbo. So some of the stories may be tied up in the two-hour final episode with the Elise, the Black Panthers, the Italian Mob and, of course, Bumpy Johnson.
Three Reasons That Make This ‘Godfather of Harlem’ Finale Episode Worthwhile
upcoming Godfather of Harlem The episode makes sense for three main reasons. First and foremost, fans deserve a more perfect ending to a show that has entertained the masses for four seasons. As already mentioned, a lot of storylines were left open in the previous episodes, so it would be nice to have some finality for series regulars.
Then there’s the timeline of all this. Season 4 begins in 1966. In real life, Bumpy Johnson died in 1968. While series are no stranger to dramatizing actual historical timelines to fit the show’s storylines, it was doubtful that the writers would want to take the onscreen version of Johnson beyond 1968, so there was only a limited amount of time left on the show with Johnson as the main focus anyway.
Last, but not least, as much as I love Godfather of HarlemWith the familiar walls of last season already closing in on Johnson, a full season order may not be as necessary to drive home the dramatic point. But hey, I’m looking at the finale as the end of a movie.
While we all wait for the upcoming episodes, past Godfather of Harlem Episodes can be streamed on MGM+ or Disney+ with a subscription.
