The Famel e-XF begins a new chapter for one of Portugal’s most iconic motorcycle brands

After years of development, delays and growing anticipation from enthusiasts, Famel has finally begun production of its new e-XF Café Racer and e-XF Classic models. This launch is a historic milestone for the brand that shaped generations of Portuguese riders and now returns to the market with a fully electric vision while preserving the identity that made it famous.

The revival project first came to light in 2017, when plans for the brand’s comeback were announced. A near-production prototype was revealed in 2021, but the final production model was not officially presented until EICMA 2025. Now, with manufacturing underway in the Guimaraes region, Famel is preparing to deliver the first units to customers.

Inspired by the famous XF-17, the new E-XF range blends classic styling with modern electric mobility. Two different versions are available. The e-XF Café Racer focuses on a sportier and more individual character, featuring a more aggressive riding position and unique styling details such as gold-finished front suspension components. The e-XF Classic takes a more practical approach, offering passenger accommodation, a larger seat and a more comfortable riding posture.

Despite being visually different, both models have the same technical underpinnings. Power comes from two removable 2.5 kWh batteries, allowing a top speed of approximately 100 km/h. Claimed range is around 120 kilometres, although factors such as rider weight, terrain and riding style will affect the final figure. Charging from a standard household outlet takes four to five hours.

Both motorcycles can be driven by holders of an A1 license or by car license holders who meet the applicable age requirements. With a curb weight of approximately 120 kg, the e-XF model is designed to be easy to use in urban environments as well as offer enough versatility for leisure riding.

Equipment levels reflect modern expectations. Standard features include full LED lighting, a USB charging port, LCD instrumentation, CBS combined braking with front and rear discs, upside-down front forks and twin rear shock absorbers, maintaining a visual link to the original Famale motorcycles.

The rebirth of the brand required an investment of approximately three million euros and production now takes place in Portugal, although in a different region from the company’s historic home of Águeda.

The e-XF Café Racer is available in orange, graphite, red, white and grey, while the e-XF Classic comes in blue, graphite, red, white and grey.

Both models are offered as Ambassador Launch Editions with a recommended retail price of €6,500.
