South African writer Coral Hart has published 371 books created with the help of artificial intelligence since February 2025, becoming one of the most visible figures in the debate over the use of AI in the publishing industry. The author, who publishes under several pseudonyms, says she has received tens of thousands of hate messages and death threats.

Hart worked in publishing for 14 years and previously wrote dozens of books without AI. To develop her method, she studied the available models for three months and uses platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude and Grok. She first establishes the story, characters, style and structure, then generates the text using detailed instructions.

The first version is checked and improved using other AI tools, while a human editor reviews the content and rewrites certain passages. One of her novels reached Amazon’s top 100 bestselling books, and the author estimates that she has sold more than one million copies and generated more than one million dollars in revenue in 2026.

Criticized for contributing to the proliferation of low-quality AI-generated content, Coral Hart responds that readers validate her books through their purchases. So far, she says, she discloses her method only when sales platforms require it.
