A new independent menswear and culture shop is opening in Caversham on Friday (October 23).Founded by Reading-based Rich Nemeth and Lloyd Moore, Slowtime Mondays brings together everything they believe in: football, music, clothes, films and the culture surrounding them.Based at 2a Prospect Street, Caversham, the shop champions heritage brands, terrace style and proper clothing, offering an alternative to fast fashion and disposable trends. Its philosophy is simple: if a piece, story or space doesn’t feel honest to football culture, British music heritage or proper clothing, it doesn’t belong at Slowtime Mondays.Slowtime Mondays didn’t begin with a business plan.
It began years ago in conversations down the pub between Rich and his great mate Macca, imagining a shop that brought together everything they cared about. In 2015, Rich explored the idea further with Jack Hobbs, but the dream remained just that — until 2026, when a familiar song changed everything. While stripping wallpaper at home, Rich heard The Jam’s That’s Entertainment, including the line “Days of speed and Slowtime Mondays”.The name, the memories and the idea came rushing back. After more than 30 years in retail, Rich knew it was time to make the dream real.A conversation with Lloyd, another Reading businessman helped turn the vision into a business, combining Rich’s passion and experience with Lloyd’s practical approach to developing the concept. For Rich and Lloyd, Slowtime Mondays is about the connection between clothing, music, football and identity. From football grounds and away days to record collections, gigs and nights out, the culture is woven into the memories people carry with them.As Rich explained in the brand’s founding story, a jacket can be so much more than a jacket.
It can carry memories, give you confidence and reconnect you with who you are.The shop brings together a carefully chosen collection of heritage and sportswear brands, including Ben Sherman, Clarks Originals, Ellesse, Fila, Lyle & Scott, Lambretta and Sergio Tacchini, alongside the Slowtime Mondays in-house range of heavyweight T-shirts inspired by great music, classic football, love and friendship. The guiding principle is captured in the brand’s tagline: “Proper Clothes.
Worn Properly.” No hype. No fast fashion. Just clothes with meaning, character and a story to tell.Slowtime Mondays aims to be somewhere people feel welcome, where the music is right, the conversation is honest and customers can discover something that feels unmistakably them.Rich said: “Slowtime Mondays began with a dream I carried around for years; a place that brought together everything I love about football, music, clothes, films and the culture surrounding them.“I didn’t want to create just another menswear shop.
I wanted somewhere with heart and character, somewhere people could walk into and immediately feel welcome.“Somewhere you could discover a great jacket, hear a brilliant record, talk about football or simply spend time with people who understand what matters to you.“Reading deserves an independent menswear shop that understands that connection between clothing, music, football and everyday life.“After all these years, I knew I had to stop putting the dream off and make it happen.”Slowtime Mondays hopes to become part of the local community, welcoming terrace and casual style enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates quality clothing, British music heritage and a more personal shopping experience. For Rich and Lloyd, the opening represents the culmination of years of ideas, conversations and friendship — and the start of a new chapter built around a culture they love.As the brand puts it: “It’s not where you’re from, it’s where you’re at.”www.slowtimemondays.com
